Garmin problem

I have garmin 785 sat nav. Allowed me to enter addresses in France when in UK. Arrived in France no maps displayed. Tried to enter address and doesn't even show France as a country?
I have Europe dem +cn Europe ntu 2023.10 all North maps installed

Garmin say I need to buy maps , which is fine if that's correct but download on WiFi will be a pain. Anyone else had a similar problem or any other ideas to fix

I can't get france to display as an option, only shows Faroe islands and Finland as options??
 
It took nearly 40 hrs to upgrade mine at weekend, I think there may be a problem with their servers try removing Garmin express and re loading the programme they have updated the software recently and it was only loading at 32b/s !

We had this happen after Nick did an upgrade a few years ago , in fact I think it was 2018, on our previous trip to the Loire. I spent the entire trip blaming him for his incompetence of course! We had to use google maps on the phone which was OK. We hadn’t taken a laptop so other than googling what to do we couldn’t fix it. Apparently it wasn’t an unknown problem at that time with the Camper version, there were a few other complaints, the only fix was to redownload an older version of maps and France reappeared, it was a temporary glitch that Garmin soon corrected. We’ve been very careful and only done one download since.

Obviously before doing that Nick had checked that he hadn’t just been a plonker and downloaded Northern Europe instead of whole of Europe. ie we had Finland plus all the Scandi countries type of thing as I think that can be an option on some satnavs but it wasn’t on ours although that was in fact what we had.
 
Very strange, my 785 had all of Europe straight out the box, not had to do owt with it really, on the whole has been good with one or two minor blips, but when I came off the chunnel the French road network was there straightaway👍
 
Updated our Garmin maps to 2022 this week and though it warned it would take 2hrs 11mins, it actually took a little over an hour.

Your problem is you only have NORTH MAPS installed. For France, Spain etc you need to download WESTERN EUROPE maps, so Garmin are correct in what they say.

Download should take a couple of hours if you have a fast Internet connection.
 
Also, go into settings, then maps and make sure all the downloaded ones are ticked.

When I bought the Garmin we have now it needed updating out of the box. On trying this it told me there was insufficient storage and insert a memor card, so i phoned their helpline and told the assistant that it was unreasonable to be asked to provide this on an brand new product when there were no advisories on the box or the sales blurb. He told me I had a point and sent me a memory card through the post - result. However, even now with each update it needs ever more memory.
