Anyone built a wooden frame in a motorhome garage to increase storage? I know a lot of people use plastic shelving but I have several pieces of 2x1 left over from another job and I was thinking of building a rack in our van garage to stow folding chairs, folding table etc on, so a frame will do. My main question is really around how to hold such a rack in place (whether to build it tight in the garage so it couldn’t move around or whether to screw it to to inside of the garage. Obviously I would favour on the former.

Unless you are desparate for payload do something. A decent rack will improve accessibility. Mine is not a normal garage but a ski cupboard ( outhouse). I made the rack out of leftover vohringer lightwt ply (15mm) and equivalent. If wt was desperate i would throw something else out first.
Originally i made it stand alone but with a rethink rebuild made it integral with the van.

The1andonly - thanks for the info and pics. Certainly given me something to think about. To be honest weight is not a issue as we uprated from 3500 to 3850 the other month and while we were close to 3500 that was When we were fully loaded. Your locker looks like our Burstner 590 Ski locker and it had fold down shelves that could be used if you weren’t carrying skis, so best of both worlds. We ‘upgraded‘ to a Burstner 690 with rear beds and hence a big garage and I was sorting out garage the other day and thought that it was a shame that 80% of the space in said garage is unused (I have plastic foldable boxes covering the floor space at the moment and a few hooks to hang coats but nothing else).

If i had a huge garage i would concider
Carrying the spare wheel inside (i ihad to buy a wheel winder and fabrcate brackets for underneath, not std)£120.
Add water carriers 20l my book says 100l reality 65l.
Throw in 2 cheap folding bikes (even if never used) currently use toad.
BUt i havent got a huge garage and will never win the lottery , dont play

For our Carthago I bought some crates to go with the wheeled storage trunk we had already which works okay but I'm gonna rethink it to see if I can store some of the ligher stuff at the top of the garage near it's 'ceiling' to save having stuff piled on top of each other.

When we had a Globecar PVC I used an old card table under the bed (legs cut down) which worked brilliantly.
