Picked up van Wednesday last week currently in Cornwall trying it out to see how things work or not !

Question, looking at photo of gas gauge on gaslow bottle is it full or empty?

Full, the gauge will work its way back towards the yellow and then red, with it being empty as the red indicator tails off :)

Could the gauge be stuck.........or it's so empty it's gone way beyond the final red sector and gives a false reading?

Empty and or stuck makes sense, thought dealer had filled bottles on install but I guess not
Should have known better as diesel fuel light was on when picked up van so not much chance of full gas tanks

im a not so newbie
Ive read the gauges arnt the most accurate in the world either.

You could always crack open the fitting to the bottle and open the valve to see if you get gas out of the bottle.

Gauge looks like it's showing full.

But I also see that it's a new to you van as you're "trying it out"

May sound a stupid question, but does your control panel allow for "Gas" , "electric" , "mix 1" and "mix 2"?

If you've accidentally selected "mix" and you're not plugged in, you'll get an error message (I speak from experience!)

Have you tried to light the cooker to see if there is any gas coming through?

Also, you'll have some isolator taps for the gas inside the van, ours are located under the sink. If these are in the off position, it could maybe cause an error message (I don't know, cos that one I've not done :) )

But I also agree it's not unknown for the gauges to read wrongly so it is possible the bottle is empty. It might however be worth checking the above before you head off to try to top up.

Good luck!

Thanks for replies, had heating and water running on various combinations of gas and electric no problem until error message and then hob, oven and fridge stopped as well.

Has its advantages Can't cook so off to the pub!

First thought - you've run out of gas (and thus the gauge is not reading right, not unusual). Try refilling, get the garage to give you a hand if you're not sure.

Second thought - the regulator has packed up, it happens. Plenty of discussions about that on here, search Regulator.

Great, problem sorted; as a matter of interest how much did you get in? Remember the fill will (should) cut off at 80% capacity so you can work out how much was actually in them. If I remember correctly an 11kg bottle holds max of 22 litres, but someone can probably correct me on that.

Anyway, those gauges look about right now, however it would be a good idea to experiment to see how accurate they are. Suggest you turn off one bottle and run it out, periodically checking the gauge reading, changing over when it does, then refill and do the same with the other bottle. That will give you an idea of how accurately they show the contents.

The gauges on our two bottles start full but show empty when the bottles are still half full. After a while you get used to how much gas you're using. We just use one bottle until it runs out, change over then think about getting a refill, dependant on where we are.

41 and a bit litres when it cut off so think that about right
Having the truma duo cs fitted with remote indicator that shows when bottle changed over so know one left before we run out next time
