Hi all were going to Bilbao in a couple of weeks and not sure about leaving our fridge switched on for the crossing … 12 volt compressor fridge 1.8/2.8amps and 216amp lithium battery , we’ve never gone 2 days without solar power, what’s people’s experiences ?
Thanks

I've only done the Portsmouth/Caen/Le Havre crossing so not as long. However, having filled the fridge with frozen stuff, it was all very cold at the other end despite being switched off. If you are worried, get it all good and cold - frozen milk etc and you could probably safely leave it switched off.

Similar set-up on our previous MoHo and crossed several times on this route with the 12v compressor-only fridge left switched on without any problem. I only had 2 x 68 ah of lithium battery power. Just make sure everything is well cool before you depart and perhaps switch to a slightly lower setting than usual (i.e. not quite so cold a setting as you might need outside in the sun) and I am sure you will have no problem. As an extra precaution, some folk put a couple of bottles of frozen milk/liquid in the refrigerator section, we never bothered and had no problem with food kept in the freezer section.

You'll be fine, it won't run continually and might only use 50Ah during the voyage, if that, so you might lose 25% of battery capacity which will soon be replaced once you start driving again, especially if you have a B2B.

What's in your fridge that you need to take? You can't legally take any meat or dairy so why not just turn it off? Stock up when you get there. Personally from a safety point of view I'd turn off all electrics when parked on the ferry.

We leave ours on for that crossing without a problem. It's a Dometic 10.4s and we have two 100 amp lead acids. If I remember correctly battery levels were about 83% getting off the ferry.

Please remember. They do have shops in Europe.

Leave your fridge on, you’ll hardly notice the power consumption on 216ah lithium.

We’re not leaving home and going straight on the ferry , 2 nights here in the uk so we will need food for that period and if i turn it off the freezer will defrost ! So its either no fridge in the uk for 2 days before we go or risk getting searched and having a bit of food confiscated
