We were/are hoping to go to France for four weeks from the beginning of April. Our plan would be to tour around, spending a couple of days in each place.
Clearly the rules may have changed by then but, to be prudent, we should probably assume that the rules as they stand won’t change – particularly given the dire state of French infections at the moment.
If I read the current rules correctly, there are two potential blockers to our visit.
1) It sounds like we will be required to self isolate for 10 days. In a motorhome that shouldn’t, in itself, be impossible but I suspect that we will be asked to declare a place where we are staying – which will be impossible unless we decide to site ourselves in a single location for the isolation period. Is this understanding correct? How have other people dealt with this problem?
2) I have found some references to there being a ban on “nonessential international travel” to France. Does this, in practice, mean that you can’t go, or might have to present evidence showing that your visit is “essential”? In our case it is simply a holiday so we would not be able to justify a trip if challenged.
We’re also thinking about how far in advance to book. Clearly there is the potential for the rules to change (to get worse as well as better) which suggests that the later we leave it the better. On the other hand, we need to get animal health certificates and tunnel tickets organised so we can’t leave it too late. We were going to use the animal health certificate place in Dover. Does anyone know how far in advance you need to book this or the tunnel at the moment?
Thanks a lot. Chris
