French low emission zones scrapped?

Add in Volvo, Ford , Polstar ,VW and others all announcing last week the cutting all Ev production by average of 30% announced recently due to poor sales and lack of demand and increasing Petrol Hybrid production ......Even germany and Japan planning to restart Nuclear power ,,, and increase coal use LOL

Fantastic news, it’s sort of what I always thought would happen. Mind you I thought they would just grant MHs an exemption purely because there are so many older French MHs.

And this is good news?

No doubt Germany will also go the same way.

Won’t hold my breath with the UK scrapping ours though. Seems mad Ed is hell bent on taxing us to oblivion.

Manchester did....
that is true. But was not actually ever introduced ?

Even Newcastle has one though. 😳😳

But wasn’t that, like many, due to being threatened with legal action ??

And yet that nutter in London has increased the daily congestion charge also. Yes technically it’s not the same thing but we all know it is in reality.

Newcastle exempts MHs.

SMMT today say that most EVs lose 50% of resale value after only 2 years , SMMT is the trade body of the UK motor manufacturers and main dealers ...thats shocking ,, The reason is the government mandated 22% of vehicle sales have to be EVs ,, so massive discounts are being forced on the sales but still the public dont buy them in sufficient numbers ,, its feeding a doom loop ... Also AA and RAC have both recently stated that EVs are just as liable to roadside break downs as ICE cars ,, 46% to 54% but the Evs are usually not fixable roadside 64% of Evs need main dealer repairs and so need to be towed. Most of the other EV problems that are fixed roadside are Brakes , Tyres or out of Battery Charge ....

Reducing pollution is a good thing of course, but the speed at which they are going about it, and trying to force everyone is totally wrong. If electric cars are better suited to customers, naturally they will buy them without the need for any fines. They need to calm down and sloooow dowwwn 😑

I wonder if the 5 year government terms are making them hell bent on getting their ideas through before Reform replaces them 👌🩵😎

They said in the article the pollution causes 40k premature deaths, well if someone is having breathing difficulties would it be a good idea to go and live in the countryside? Or would you expect everyone else in the city to buy an electric car so you can live a few months longer? 🤔

I suppose it depends on whether you think that humans have a responsibility to each other, both present and future generations 🙄
Its amazing the numbers of people who dont give a f*** about the planet they leave for their children and grandchildren

Because their scheme was 100 times bigger than anyone else's and they had no funding or expertise to implement it. And at the time, it would have taken a couple of years to even procure the cameras because they needed so many. So the project had no hope of being delivered within the framework's timescale.

The zones have done their job. Most old vehicles that needed to use the zones have now been replaced. And in the past 6 years, many have been scrapped due to age anyway. Deleting it won't do much harm.

The same is true of the CAZs in England. The diminished effect as the years progress was included in their models. As time progresses, less and less polluting vehicles would be left to enter.

Remember those words next time you go out in your motorhome - or is that different ?
Did I have a choice, my MH is EURO 6, but then by age it would have to be. My company car is a petrol/hybrid, my next car will be a hybrid or an EV. I have solar panels on my house, and my energy supplier provides 100% renewable electricity. I have also invested some of my pension directly into renewable energy companies, I'm trying to be better, but we can all improve.

Once the zones cost more to manage then they rake in, then it will be a question of what price they put on public health

Audi 50 e-tron RRP without options over £61k

3 years old with 20-30000 miles, £27k.

Their effect would continue well after they disappear. Even if they stopped operating now, it's not like everyone is going to sell their compliant cars to buy +10 year old diesels.

But there will be a point where they make no effective difference because there's so few non-compliant vehicles left on the road.
