Do any Funsters have any anecdotes about how things are panning out on French campsites? In particular, how are use of the toilets and shower blocks given the social distancing requirements. Washing up facilities; are they open and how are they spaced and cleaned? How often are shower blocks (if open) cleaned?
Be grateful for any feedback. We're going to our first campsite tomorrow (since the lockdown) and will post back when we're there.
Thanks

Read on the facebook page of Rives du lac near Annecy that all facilities are open but respect social distancing when entering leaving block. Only 2 people in reception at a time when booking in have all details on a piece of paper to cut down time in there. Another site at the bottom end of the lake at Doussard states on their webpage that all facilities open bar, resteraunt, pool. Again social distancing to be respected.

Thats good to know 👍 had planned to be over just now but hoping for August now all going well.

All of the facilities have been open on the sites we’ve been to (but I believe the one we’ve just arrived at in Chagny is unable to open its restaurant).

The last place had a spray bottle of disinfectant in the sanitaires, and you were asked to spray and wipe with a paper towel anything you had touched.

Haven’t seen any restrictions on the number of people allowed in the sanitaires, but everywhere so far has been very quiet anyway. Sanitaires have been cleaned twice a day as far as I can tell, where we’ve been.

Masks required in reception, limited number of people in at one time (and only one per household).

This is all looking very promising. The site we're going to, on Lac Panneciere, seems quite laid back but we couldn't quite understand what the owner was saying when we asked her whether the sanitaires were open. She was either saying they're open but limited the numbers at any one time or else they weren't open. Neither of us speaks French well enough to understand the Morvan dialect 🙂. No offence intended to les Morvanais!

Off tomorrow morning to Marseillan Plage for a week. Spoke to the site they said they are all open, extra staff for more regular cleaning, hand gel and sanitaires available. Mask in reception.
Don't know how busy they will be, Hopefully it will be reasonably quiet.
Restaurant's open in the town.
All packed and ready...

Thanks and have a brilliant time. We stayed at Marseillian Plage last October and had a fabulous time. Thinking of going again I'm a few weeks so look forward to hearing your experiences. Safe trip.

Have a brilliant time. MH still in workshop awaiting a new water tank...from France! Bon trajet et bon séjour.
Thanks. Hope you get your van sorted. Bon courage!

Showers are 1 family group at a time. We were given a toilet number to use so presumably each toilet has a limited number of people. 20 m by 10 m pool no more than 25. Only one in the bar at a time. Drink outside.

None of these rules have had any bearing on us.

Be warned this sun is blistering atm and it gets hot next week. From moulins

BOULES - the English Boules hierarchy have kindly issued advice to players, to socially distance at all times; to each use own boules; to not use a scoreboard in situ but one player to use a pocket one and keep it in his pocket; each team to use their own jack and nobody else to touch it; to not use rings to stand in, ascribe a circle with one foot instead; one off each team to throw the jack and everyone else to be happy with where it lands; nobody except the owner to lay a finger on anyone else's boules; nobody aged over 70 be allowed to play.

Oh dear. Anyone in the market for a set of OBUT competition weight boules, one lady owner from new, never raced but have rallied sur le continong and throughout the UK, and only in use by owner since the early 1980s .....

Do I presume that the Committee setting the 'rules' are all under 70?

Question about your bike set up, if you don’t mind? We’re taking delivery of our van in September and we were thinking of having a tow bar fitted ( not exclusively for bikes) as I already have a Thule tow bar rack.

How do you find the set up? (y)

I asked the person informing us of this if he had mentioned to said body where they could stick the last bit of advice but oddly, he hasn't answered ....

Similar to the site we are on, on the Vendee. Social distancing however doesn't apply when playing boules ...
A bit like golf where you can’t touch each other’s balls, :rolleyes:you can’t touch each other’s boules.
Last week I threw a ball back to a golfing friend, he almost killed himself diving out the way.

We were on the Dunkirk site Thursday and Friday. Bar and restaurant open wknds only. Friday night bar packed, no masks, not distancing of any note and crowd included 2 uniformed police! Got a table for dinner, but was fully booked inside. We have on board facilities so cannot comment on showers etc.
Now in Germany at Rudesheim, weekend so site is rammed, and I mean rammed. Out in restaurants and bars you are given a simple form for names of group and contact details. Even in a bar for a coffee. A minor issue with logical connotations.
Masks worn if using loos or close contact scenarios, sometimes.
Crossed 3 borders, UK to France, France to Belgium, Belgium to Germany. Never knew we had crossed until sat nav told me.

Pleasantly ensconced on the site at Lac Panneciere. €12.94 including hookup and taxe de sejour. The regimen here is as follows: 50% of the showers are closed so as to allow a maximum of 8 people in the shower/toilet block at a time. 4 men and 4 women. Masks in the sanitaires are mandatory.

The dishwashing sinks follow the same: 50 % are closed off with red and white tape. There are pumptainers with alcohol gel everywhere.
The atmosphere is very friendly if a little subdued. It's as if all's back to normal but just not quite.
No one has commented about our UK registration and as is often the case, a French van has parked up very close to us despite there being no shortage of spaces. Although we didn't say anything and were contemplating moving, after about 5 minutes they moved away by about 10 feet. So all's well. Tomorrow's scheduled to reach 27° so our swimming gear will get a long overdue workout. Nearest baker is 2km away so we'll cycle over there tomorrow.

Just came back from a weekend away in Annecy. All the sites around the lake were open from what we could see. At the site we stayed at it was only about 10% full, mainly French vans, couple of Dutch and 1 Danish camper in a tent. The only C-19 protocols that we saw were a one way system into and out of the shower block and toilet block and hand sanitiser at the entrance (wash before you go in). Nothing at the supermarkets other than 1m distancing and hand washing on entry (many didn't seem to be bothering with that) quite a few with masks on though, i'd say 25% of people inside the shop.

And beyond that it was a fine sunny weekend of outdoor goodness:smiley:

Next plan is the Dordogne, heading out on the 6th July

Having always had standard bikes on the bike rack mounted on the door, i wanted to change to eBikes, but they are 1 too heavy to lift up high, and would be over the weight limit on the rack.
So fitted a tow bar and purchased the Thule Velocompact 925 for two bikes. Max total weight 60kg. So well within the weight limit now. Around 40kg excluding the batteries. I looked at other types that allowed you to open the rear doors, but discounted due to price!!
Found the Thule very good and solid, easy to load and unload. If you tilt the rack with the bikes on you can access the rear doors and open partially.
For me it's a great solution, very pleased with it and would recommend it for eBikes.
Just done 1000km to the Mediterranean and back no problem.

We stayed a week at Camping Robinson Marseillan Plage.
To check in you have the gel dispenser and a automatic facial temperature test.
After passing this you can enter reception. Staff are behind the usual Perspex / Glass screens. We walked around to find a quiet pitch, but the campsite was not busy. We noticed that there were the automatic gel dispencers placed around the site. As you enter the pool, the toilets and washrooms. The site was clean and seemed to maintain the cleaning a couple of times a day. We felt comfortable on site with the precautions they were taking. But it's not over the top..
Towards the end of the week the site started filling up.
The town was busy and restaurants required you to wear a mask when entering, unless you were sat outside on the terrace. The waiter explained that the menue cards were sanitized after each use.
So had a great time after a few months of lockdown.
Looking forward to September when we will travel to Spain and Portugal for a couple of months. July and August are far to hot and busy for us...
