Freeloading TP in Bristol

Awww be fair.. Don't be mean.

All they want, because living accommodation is small, is to have to open their door to open fields and have freedom, no restrictions . .

Don't we all!!!! But we all pay council tax and share responsibilities. :(

..
(PS. Just thought about my sarcastic answer....... Eerrrrr... That could be me soon if my life doesn't change. Maybe time for me to apologise to them.)

No mention of welfare facilities though 🤷‍♂️

I'm always curious about how they dispose of waste and "human effluence" and where does their water come from? Is grey water just discharged on the road? It is certainly not a lifestyle I would want but each to their own I suppose.

The Circular Road round the Downs used to be my unofficial test track before the City Council imposed a 30 mph speed limit. Big fun at night. Some might have called it antisocial but my excuse I was young and teaching myself about understeer and oversteer when there was nobody else about.

I sympathise with the van dwellers, but having said that, the Downs should be kept as green open space for all Bristolians (and amateur football teams).

good luck to them.
I wonder if any are on here, Cameron in particular ?

grey can go down the road grids, black is probably public bogs (hopefully) and water will be from plenty places, supermarkets, motorway services , public looes etc.

It can be done if you are disciplined.

The sort of facilities you mention are nowhere close to the road on which those vans are parked up. It does raise valid suspicions about disposing black waste down the rainwater grids instead of sewers.

I am glad that my circumstances mean that we don’t have to live like that. I like my luxuries too much😀

There's something about that part of the world ... for years there's been an ongoing dispute over the number of residential boats at that end of the Kennet and Avon canal contravening their licence conditions by never moving.

Most American cities have areas like this, except the vans look older, and when they are inevitbly "cleaned up" it always makes the news. The US though has plenty of space available when they move on.

I can understand the appeal of van life to youngsters. Most will never own their own home and van life is a short term often exciting answer, fair play to them, we need adventure when we are young. For older people, maybe divorced or widowed, needs must and they can have a nice life in a van. However, sadly, the massive rise of vanlife in the UK is certainly going to impact our off-site recreational use of motorhomes because the public perception is just not good.

Not so much now , but pre Covid a few of the students at Uni in Penryn stayed in Vans.
One of the lecturers parked an old Caravan in a layby near the Uni, ignored all Council Warnings to move on.

Took the Council a while to come and tow it away to be crushed.

It turned out he only slept in it, meals toilet shower all his clothes etc was at the Uni in his office.
The thing only cost him £500, he would have paid more than that a month in rent, bit of a win win for him considering he was there for a full term.
