Last year I suggested that UK campsites could learn some lessons from those in France. A few responses suggested I was just keen to put the UK down. Many others agreed

So just one week into ten here in France, .....so far Sunshine, mostly empty Campsites with clean hot showers, free WiFi, swimming pool, 10A hookup, toilet paper too, no advance booking and pay on leaving, all for less than £13 per night plus £0.5 tourist tax pp on a lovely ACSI campsite in the Champagne region. With easy driving on French roads away from the Toll roads and motorways, forests and lakes to explore, plus good wine and food too.
Maybe just maybe I would want to recommend it to all

I think you might be talking to (y) (y) ;) the already converted on here.

less than £13 per night
Hope you've added mileage from home to your nightly cost...
...oh, and ferry/tunnel fares,
Not forgetting AHC fees.

Gosh, that's so much cheaper than, for example, Hereford Rowing Club at £7.50

:sneaky:

Have a fabulous holiday (y)

Just checked the rowing clubs website, £8 per person per night, https://www.herefordrc.co.uk/copy-of-camping-canoeing-parking
no electric available,
Whilst I'm sure it's very pleasant not much more than a field i.e. C.L. et al not exactly the sort of amenities the OP was describing.

Hmm... not so sure you've convinced me with this.

Hereford Rowing Club , sitting in traffic jams... verses empty French roads.. all the 'extra' costs are easily recouped with a long term tour across the channel

Personally I don't find touring in the UK a viable option just sat at the side of the river muse now on a lovely spot topped up my lpg at 63p per litre so plenty of gas for heating fridge and cooking. Can can stay here as long as I want or move on tomorrow knowing that I can find more amazing places with ease if I had to remain in the UK all the time I would change to a caravan. As its just simply not the same in the UK

If France, etc is so wonderful why don't we all just move there permanently?:whistle2::giggle:

In the meantime I'll continue supporting the UK economy (and getting sunburnt!) on our nearly 7 week trip after what it's been through recently.(y)

Each to their own though but it's just the way I feel at the moment.

We love France AND UK for motor homing ; different holidays . France is IMO cheaper [basically free crossing with Tesco points ] easier driving mainly quieter roads and the the thrill of the unusual [and all that lovely bread cheese and wine.]
UK has the thrill of discovering places we had no idea were here ! Some right on the doorstep and we would never have seen them without the Moho. And none of that French speaking to contend with - tho I can ask for Vin Rouge easily ...
Don't think that this needs to be a partisan debate - not putting the UK down but I do agree things are easier and more geared to motor homing wanders than in the UK

We're talking about holidays, not living anywhere.

Since covid, all our 'touring' has been in the UK, mainly THS's it's been enjoyable, but I certainly don't think I have to support any home business if they continue to see me as a cash cow.

Once we stop holidaying in France then we will change back to a caravan as most places in the UK are not easily accessible to towns and/or buses which we need to be able to get about. Don't mind walking a bit but would rather not have to walk a couple of miles to find a pub, town or bus!

Agree a lot of sites are a distance to "civilisation" however on our current trip of 11 stops only one is more than a mile from a pub.(y)
Now that's what you call planning.:giggle:

That's the other thing I don't like about the UK! All that planning, booking, paying a deposit (if not the full amount!)! It's a real PITA!

How can I get a free crossing, I shop in Lidl because it's considerably cheaper than Tesco
Is Tesco more expensive when you can get £150 off your ferry fare for £50 worth of points? Personally I prefer Lidl but often get diesel from Tescos (have never come across a Lidl fuel station in the UK, or noticed one abroad) so we don't confine ourselves to a single supermarket.

Are you going to let us know which campsite it is?

We are just north of Bordeaux atm, meandering back to UK after 5 months touring Spain. Our water pump just went kaput, so need a campsite tomorrow or Thurday to stop smelling 🤭🤣🤭

Sounds as though you personally should just do Britstops
But surely you need to walk at least 100 paces to build up a drouth before you get to the pub?:giggle:

Or you can stop at home for nothing..Worst part of traveling to Europe is the journey in uk on potholed overcrowded roads ...Worth every penny of ferry cost and extra fuel to find usually good weather,,aires and good reasonable priced sites which can be accessed on traffic free roads in France and Spain.BUSBY.

I suppose its up to everyone to decide what's best for them but as several people have stated above its the planning and pre booking in the uk that's a nightmare and that really tales the shine off touring in the UK for me. Plus grimbergen beer is cheap where I am at the minute 😂😂🍻

Once we stop going to France, all forms of camping will also stop.
Good old Ryanair. (y) (y) (y) (y)
