Please excuse me if I’m just repeating previous blogs.
Just about to purchase our second motor home after a 8 year break and I’ve heard that many aires in France now have entry systems which can only be accessed with tokens , is this correct ? If so can anybody advise how one obtains these tokens please
Regards

No a lot of aires are now camping car parks which use a card entry and range from 10€ but still a lot are free or just a credit never found a token one only for water.

Normally tells you on a notice at the entry. If tokens it could be at the tourist office, mayers, who etc. Some are electronic payment and then the CampingCarParks need a swipe card which you can pre order or get from a machine at the entrance.

In over 5 week's in France I didn't see any.
I only used the free Aires as usual.
There must must be thousands of standard free Aires and few dozen Camping Carparks

Download the full version it Park4Night for 10€ and search all the bes 5*, free Aires with or without services. Simples 😳

Thank you all, extremely helpful. On our last European foray we stayed at numerous free aires and those are what I intend to pursue

I know that there are mixed views on here, personallyI cannot understand why anyone would choose to spend a night in an air..... we were in France last month and cycled around the area, there were several Aires, but at a cost of 15€ per night..... we were in a lovely campsite with all the services at ( with ACSI) 16€ per night. and as for driving around to look for a free stop...... get a life !!!

Have you not heard of the Apps: Campercontact, park4night, searchforsites, campingcar-infos?

Thousands of places, many with photos and descriptions.

Pick three possibilities within a few kms choose 'best', if it does not suit then go on.

I have been doing that in Europe for 10 years and have found some delightful places, many maybe better than campsites where the view can be of other MH/Caravans.

As you say 'mixed views', especially the view from our windows.

Two of usI what would you do on Greek islands with no campsites? Refuse to go there and miss easy parking at wonderful beaches? As we did last year.

You don't have to drive around any where looking for an Aire.
At about 4.00 we do quick search of the area and then press the Camper Contact button on the satnav or search for a free 5* with or without services Aire on Park4Night.
Simples :drinks:

You might have unlimited funds but for some a few free nights is a bonus and allows them a longer break we've all got a life thank you

There are campsites in Greece but not often on the smaller islands, mainly I think because people do not pay to ferry their MH to them, not like us. Difficult to give information on a 'negative'.

Many places along the Greek coastline there are tracks down to sandy coves - just be careful about the surface you park on.

There are some restrictions on parking in tourist towns by the beach, but they are the exception.

May be your opinion but we actually prefer Aires, don't particularly like sites only stay on them if needs must.

Exactly, coming to the end of our four week trip up to the top of Denmark and then up the Baltic coast to Peenemunde, not many free stops on the Baltic coast but still managed to get round on €60 for stops and water👍
All helps pay for the fuel 😃 €1.85 in eastern Germany👍

I'm on a CCP aire now, but in tent with my car.

It’s a fine site, seems to be an ex municipal site, has showers, launderette etc, a bit 'tired' but an Ideal overnight stop if travelling this way.

Am I right in assuming that camping-car parks and aires du service are totally different places and not the same thing?.

You stick with your life (and choices), I'll stick with mine thank you very much!

We're in Turkey at the moment, free camped every night so far, same goes for Greece. We've used one ACSI campsite in Slovenia on this trip. We've never used a campsite in France to the best of my memory.

I think they're much the same, but Camping Car Parks is a company running a chain of aires.
