Do Fords have more problems with rust than Fiats? Someone on here recently pointed out Fiats are galvanised since 2008 but I don’t think same for Fords. Is this an issue? I have read about security issues but believe a good alarm should do the trick. We are looking at a 2020 Chausson.

Having own an N Reg van conversion based on a Transit that rusted faster than I could afford the current 55 plate Transit seems better. The only body repairs so far have been the result of a previous bad repair from an altercation with a gate post before I bought it.
I have fitted dead locks to the cab doors and the habitation door has a deadlock. As others will agree anything to slow down the potential break in will help.

Oh yes my 2016 transit lwb minibus is way more rusty than the galvanised 2002 Renault master I had before it.

Imho quality went down post 2016 when they moved manufacturing to Turkey thanks to the EU.

I would get it undersealed it asap.

I have the gear to do mine but have yet to get round to it!!

We were only considering looking at it tomorrow, I was pretty keen on it but beginning to think Ford could be a bad idea.

I don’t think anyone has managed to hang on to their Fords for that long, as they’re top of the list for being stolen.

Well worth doing a complete undersealing of it, I did my Fiat, even though it wasn’t showing any signs of corrosion.

Bought ours new 2009, has run 12 years, had oil & filter change every 2 years, set of brakes and tyres, that’s it. The last thread I read on here for stolen motorhomes was assumed to be a Ford when it turned out to be a sprinter, also mentioned on that thread was 2 stolen fiats, anything will be stolen if they really want it.

We have some slight surface rust on the underside, but the first 5 years it was used hard in winter on salted roads. Never been commented on mot. I am so pleased I haven’t had an airbag light come on, gone into limp mode, or changed a cam belt.

I had a 58 reg transit work van, it was going rusty at 3 years old above the windscreen and sliding door sil 👎

My 58 plate Transit chassis is fine and shows no signs of rust. So far all running gear good too. Probably helps that it never sees salted roads as we’re fair weather adventurers only.

Which van conversions use the Transit as a base vehicle? Other than Murvi?

Do they do PVCs? Never seen one of those 🤔

My 2016 Murvi , 61 k on clock no problem , my n reg work van only gave up ghost just before covid . Transit superb vehicle .

Our Bucanneer Caravel is a 2002!Ford cab is unmarked☹️no rust😁But to fair it hasn’t been used when there is salt on the road!!Any make Will get stolen if thieves are determined! My money is on a clutch lock or a steering wheel lock.but I wouldn’t have anything but a Ford Transit..Had 5 over last 25 years😁

Not that old chestnut again, plenty of Fiat motorhomes get stolen too.
