Rehydration is the key, use plenty of cold water wet them leave it a few minutes then go back and they should wipe off quite easily.

I do the same on the van as my motorbikes, wet kitchen roll left on for a couple of hours sit back and enjoy a glass or two of wine, remove and then residue off with baby wipes.
Works a treat !

Most of the suggestions have a high probability of damaging your paintwork, if you must use anything with caravan or motorhome in the title make sure that it is thoroughly rinsed off and when dry apply a good coat or two of quality wax. Autoglym SRP is a polish so will also require a coat of wax afterwards.

As Both John and Bill suggested..
Wet newspaper.
Its an old ( very old ! ) bikers trick.. I have tried all the sprays ( in fact I used to sell it and still have some bottle left ) but none of it can hold a candle ( ! ) to wet newspaper.
Wet the paper, spread it out, go for a cuppa.. By the time you get back the fly bums will just wipe off :)

If I was driving anywhere in January warm enough to get flies on the front of my van I wouldn't be complaining.

If it's southern French flies we just make sure we drive back to Calais via Normandy, where it's usually pissing it down.

I use lots of water/shampoo and a sponge, after a medium pressure wash. For baked on flies and tar spots, I (gently) use the nylon mesh you can get for cleaning non-stick pans.

Not so worried about the van but being a very happy motorhomer who likes the window down I need to get them off my TEETH! I HATE THE TASTE OF WASHING UP LIQUID!

The key is to soak the affected area first, it's hard work trying to get them off dry and you will be rubbing polish or wax away and even damage the paintwork.
We use an old towel soaked in water and leave for about 10 minutes, insects just wipe off after that.
It's best to apply a couple of coats of good quality polish such as Mer to the front of the Van at the start of the insect season .

At last! I can provide my fellow funsters some useful advice.
For many years I have been using an old pair of ladies tights to remove flies. Just use it to apply your usual washing solution and hey presto, off the little buggers come.

It doesn't matter which ladies tights you use, although if they are obviously not your wife's,make sure you have a good excuse.;);)

Never been a problem for me, I simply swerve to avoid them. It really p****s off other drivers but it saves on the elbow grease:LOL:

Spray on, rinse off. With the overhang I always use this as when it runs and drips onto the windscreen, it cleans that too :)

If you get "Bug's"that appear to be welded to the windscreen and just wont come off, wet the screen and use a safety razor blade held in the hand, be careful and only ever use fresh blades, this also gets paint or overspray off any of your windows. Also get's those unwanted stickers off.
But soaking with wildbills idea would be my first method.
