Our 2019 Elddis Majestic 155 is due for its first M.O.T. before 31st May (booked-in for 16th). It has 4 belted seats - driver and passenger in cab - and two additional seats which are hidden under the front lounge seats. I assume that I should fold-out the additional seats for inspection before taking the ‘van for testing…….or should I let the tester do that? (Photos for illustrative purpose only!;))

Yes . Leave them out for testing 👍🏻
Although I don’t know if it would fail if you didn’t . I suspect it would pass anyway .

FWIW we always leave our grandsons child seats fitted, which makes it impossible to check the retaining seat belts. The MOT is usually marked as rear seat belts not tested. but passes anyway.

The only ‘extra bits’ are the lounge seat cushions - they go on the rear fixed bed - as the lounge seats fold flat against the side walls. Having said that, we’ve never used the additional belted seats anyway…. ;)

Have a look at the log book, I had a 2016 encore 255 and log book said TWO seats!! I wrote to the DVLA and they changed it to 4 👍

Edit. Never had them on show for MOT👍

I'll probably be wrong (as usual!) but if the V5 is notated as 4 travelling \ belted seats do these not have to be tested by the MOT station?
If they do, and they are under the side couches, I doubt MOT tester would "assembly" them to test the outcome of which would be ?????

Edit : seems to be clarified by WESTY66 above!(y)

My last mot the tester asked where the rear seat belts were. They were not on view. I had to extract them so they could be tested. Previous Mots at same garage they were not on show and went untested.

Personally I would make anything easier for the tester, if they go looking for belts you don't want grubby hands on your nice furniture, just put them on display as above.

I also had a 155. When it went for mot I left the seats in-situ, I.e. hidden under the front lounge seats.
I had no queries or fails.

As in the first pic leave it like that as not forwards facing.
Seat belts Not required.
2nd pic Required. So leave on display.

Or that how it was when I was testing

….so, should I leave the belted seats ‘hidden’ as in photo 1…..??

90% of testers probably wouldn't bother but if you get Mr pedantic who may or may not have grubby hands as the saying goes do you feel lucky

I would, you know they are there if required.
You do a visual inspection re fraying. And a good tug on the closed belt mechanism, inspection on mounting points. Your responsibility.

An mot is only good value at the time of inspection. Up to requirements.

People Go up the road and change stuff that wouldn't have passed.

Or taxi drivers coming in for cars 1st mot with low miles with original speedo.
The speedo they have been using would tell a different story.
And first mot is where milage history begins.
And programs out there plug into odb port "dashboard conversions" would rectify faults 🤣🤣🤣 on speed and ecu.

Sorry different subject

No diferent to taking in an mpv with all 5 rear seats removed & at home. they can only test what is on show. As jollyrodger said if floded down they cannot legally ask for them to be shown. If in the use position they can test them.

But the seats are not removed are they, they are just folded down....so legally yes they do need inspecting I would respectfully suggest as the seats are still attached to the vehicle.

The tester isn’t allowed to “go digging “ for the belts, or rummaging with his grubby hands. It must be tested as it is presented to him. It’s a simple not there not tested. But even if you are concerned he could fail it, then you turn up to collect it build seats and show it. Get the pass.

I never put up the folding 3rd row seats in my old Discovery for the MOT and never had a problem. As there was a rubber boot liner and a lot of dog hair on top I don't think they even looked.
