Finding a Secure Spot for Spare Motorhome Keys

Takes me 15 seconds to get in those key safes, that’s if I could be bothered to get under and have a look…..

But a thief could be bothered…

Thanks. Good reminder to get third ignition key. We have several habitation door keys and OH carries one. Full set hidden in MH, but if it were stolen insurers would not know if I can produce 2 sets.
I think I will do exactly that. Good plan

Only used our factory keys to get the van home, and to get after market sets cut. The originals stay at home, and could be posted out in an emergency, and I have the originals to show, if required.
Mike.

We hide the keys inside and take hab key out with us. Spare hab key also available somewhere only i know.

Completely off topic, but does the OP iamarobot1999 not have significant issues with Web forms and logins?

The thought of loosing your keys when a long way from a spare set has always stressed me out so I’ve always stashed a set somewhere.
Just picked up our new van and got underneath to fit a key safe.
Instantly found the spot and there was a bolt already perfectly placed to attach it!
Things a rarely that easy!

With the black rubber cover on it you’d never spot it.
Happy days.

Those Master key safes are not renowned for their security. If you must fit a key safe, go for a police preferred one like these https://keysafe.co.uk/collections/police-preferred-key-safes
The Supra P500 Pro may be expensive but you get what you pay for. I know, I've just fitted one to our house.

A few years ago we got to Calais and I realised I had remembered absolutely everything, except the habitation door key😆. I had to lie under the van and dig the spare out, my fingers were bartled in grease but was so glad it was there ☺️
Bartled? I'm guessing you are not from south of Watford then! My spell-checker comes up red and the COD has nothing between "bartizan" and "baryon". From previous experience on here I have to say this is tongue-in-cheek.

When my car was stolen I was asked did I have a second key , yes but no idea where it is
They said don't worry not an issue. I seemed that they were happy that it had not been stolen with a key
Had you left key's in ignition, maybe warming it up 🙈

I'm sure thieves know people hide key's in little magnetic boxes etc . . . 1st thing they will look for under a vehicle they're going nick, makes their life a lot easier. They know where to look, so 2-10 mins with a torch on their back guaranteed !
As many do like me always carry the spare hab key with my house/shed and motorbike chain key in my pocket.
This is if main key's get locked in van, if we lose them while away from the van you are covered on your Insurance for loss or theft, check it out 🤷‍♂️
Please don't help the scumbags do what they're good at . . .

No made the mistake of parking it outside the flat in Dulwich whilst I went away. They used the sparkplug key.

What if your van needs the id tags like mine does for the tracker where do you put these ?
I think the tracker manufacturers advise that you don't keep the ID tag on the key ring, cos if the thief gets the key, he also gets the tag. Something else to lose, and why I use my phone as a tag instead of the physical tag.

We always keep ours seperate, even at home they are never with the keys.

Meta trac say keep one on the main set and one one spare , I didn't do that and kept getting notifications of id not found constantly .

Our's is with Global Telemetrics (GTE) So on a credit card size which I keep in my money clip with my other debit cards ! Only switch on as we climb in cab to drive away . . .

Sorry, not a hurdle we've had to cross, but other's might respond to your sensible question.
Mike.

I decided that the ignition key was the most important one and for insurance purposes I couldn’t leave it in the van and not at home, if abroad. Luckily, my spare ignition key is fairly slim (non remote) and strong so I always carry it in my wallet ( in my back pocket) It hasn’t bent yet. My ridiculously fat everyday remote key will usually be carried in my rucksack or my jacket. So, I’m only completely screwed if I lose both. Very unlikely. If forced to break in due to the loss of my remote key, at least I can still drive.
Spare hab keys and the separate “doors only” remote device in the token safe. Have I made a glaring mistake? (Couldn’t think of a perfect solution.)
Question: as immobiliser keys have a transponder, is there any electronic gadget that can sniff them out if hidden in that cunning place on the vehicle that “a thief will never think of.”

Hi Simon, Probably not the top model, mines the S5+ Immobiliser, really pleased with the card, as you can activate the Immobiliser yourself by simply pressing the green button. Ignition is dead untill switched on, and we don't do that till we're inside, door's locked and ready to drive away !
So feel very safe, and everything on a personal App that records mileage, journey's covered etc. I can alter settings as and when necessary, dependant where we are at the time !

It's not cheap Simon, sure yours a lot cheaper, probably does the same job but without the tech 🙈 £17.49 month. Sure you could upgrade your's if you felt you need more protection. Have you got the App, as you can download it if required !

Well, he throws like a girl.
I knew the spark plug trick 25 years ago.
A small (size of little finger nail) of insulator porcelain is enough to shatter the glass
Haven't watched it just seen the heading 😳
