Hi All. I bought my 2014 moho in April and the odometer was flashing. Dealer promised to fix it but didn't have a clue what the issue was. I found out the fault was a replacement radio the system didn't recognise, so it won't proxy align. Fiat want nearly £700 to fit a new unit but it's on back order with no idea when it will be available. For those who've upgraded their head units with non Fiat ones, how did you get over the proxy alignment issue?

I changed the radio for a Sony in my 2010 Peugeot Boxer - essentially the same vehicle - just a year ago. No problems.

We binned ours and fitted a single din Kenwood no problems at all and I have somewhere to store my sun glasses.

We didn’t get over the problem so we live with the flashing odometer. The “experts” say it does no harm . We will out back the original unit if we sell the moho

You need an adapter from Connects2 - cost £50 - £100

Will a flashing odometer be an MoT failure?

recently upgraded to a alpine (radio/sat nav) No problem at all

Oops don’t know but I don’t think so/hope not , but I will check . It’s only the mileage that flashes
I don't know for sure but I guess it would be. Ours was flashing, along with the airbag warning light, when we had the airbag ECU issue and I'm pretty sure the MoT tester said both would be failures when I asked him.

How do I get this unit out as I think the sat nag wire has come off the back.

is it a pioneer unit? I can't tell from the photo.
I have the Pioneer unit in a 2015 m/h. Remove the plastic outer frame - it just pops off. Then removed the unit by pushing a pallet knife down each vertical side of the unit to release the side retaining clips - if I remember correctly the clips are in the middle of each side towards the rear end of the unit so you have to push the pallet knife in far enough to release these clips
Then give it a wiggle and it should pull out

We bought a 2014 ducato (in 2018) which had an aftermarket Kenwood system. We also had the flashing odometer issue.

I ignored it thinking it was the proxy non-standard radio issue - which I researched on this forum.

I took it into a Fiat Professional dealership for a cam-belt change and service in 2020, and they also noticed the flashing odo and after some investigation told me it was a airbag ECU fault, which they replaced FOC (as they cocked up the service! Another story), and it hasnt flashed since.

Just for your info.

FYI I have got the special removal tools that came with the unit but they are too flimsy - not strong enough to release the spring clips - hence the use of the pallet knives.

Here's a picture - of course it's spelt "palette" and not "pallet" as I said wrongly .. oops

I believe the head unit issue is dependant on which head-unit of any it left the manufacturer with.

I had a similar issue with a Fiat 500 doing the same….I used Multiecuscan to remove the head unit from the cars software and then done the proxy align, which stops it complaining that it can’t find the factory fitted entertainment unit, because you’ve told it there isn’t one.

If you just proxi align it will still complain when it can’t find it because the system still thinks it’s still fitted with what the ecu says should be there.

if that makes sense……

You need the correct steering wheel control module for your van and the head unit fitted. Speak to the manufacturer of the module. They will sort it for you.

Yes. Annoyingly I had to pay another £60 for mine from Halfords.

It does make sense I'm just wondering why the Fiat dealership didn't suggest that option and insist i should fit a new unit at £700!

That would be a lot cheaper than the £700.
And, I would think the dealer would not do that because it would alter the configuration of the vehicle.

Tell them you will take £500, then buy a second hand head unit (OEM) for about £100 and fit it. 20 min job.
I did, they declined. But a second hand unit won't work unless you have the right code, I'm told.
