mell if you read my reply it sometimes does not matter if you use the tool or not my garage has the tool and fitted it in at the right torque but they can still leak my advice is to get a new 1 and replce the whole unit it would cost more in diesel in the long run imho

Bill I have sent for a new one from AtoZ wakefield
£59:50
they are sending it today to my son.
I will carry a spare one in future.
just thought for £12+ £4:50 p&p I would try my self next time.
if it works ok its not a bad saving(I am a Yorkshireman).
if not I always have a spare.
unles I sell it for a profit over here before then.

Good morning all.
once again thanks to all for the help.

The new filter is now fitted and working.
we (the royal we) my local village garage is now busy fitting a new filter system.
We:) are trying with a filter housing off a Toyota disel just before the Fiat plastic filter.
this has a priming pump built in.
we can then just change the spin off metal filter at the service.
it still has to be tested under normal running conditions but its looking ok at the moment.
if it works I will take photos and try to find the part numbers needed.

also now I have the tool to open the plastic filter if the new system works We will open the old filter at the next service and leave the filter out.
unless someone says this is a bad idea.

We'll done techie 100

Excellent advice

I now carry a spare !!

And after 500 miles the rebuilt one has failed and is consigned to the bin, I had to fit the new spare at the road side.

I overhauled the old one with the correct tool, new filter and took care with it , but it failed, so a factory fresh one has been fitted

Looking to buy another new one , but they all seem to be up at £100 now, hey ho

But that's in America, so I can see the postage being high plus an import tax. Are there non in this country cheap?

You are right -just seen the location. With your link on my PC the whole add looks as though its from America, even the 'ship to United Kingdom' - Confusing.
I'll try ordering one - Thanks.

Just tried to order one ---- Item out of stock!

Hi Bill
Due to ilness we have only done about 4500 km since the modification.
But up to now no proplems.
I think if we where away in the winter to the very cold places I would try to cover the filter with insulation.
But Other than that cant see any major problems.

Just off on Friday for 9 weeks so it will get a good test.

Seller is still accepting orders without taking payment until available.

86 Euro equals
61.94 British Pound

For all my recent european online purchases I have used my Caxton card (y)

Cheapest option NOW is the amazon link I posted earlier and back in stock. It should equate to £65 delivered.
The ebay seller that was waiting for stock is now taking advantage of inflated prices and shortage so he's added £30
