The cab air con hasn’t worked for a while now so while the van was in having some work done I asked the ( reputable and trusted ) garage I use to see what’s up with it. They drained the fluid ( full ) so it’s not got a leak and figured out it’s the compressor. He then rang the people he gets parts from to get a price. £475! 😳. Plus fitting. 🙄. Well there goes next weeks wages! 😂. Got to get it sorted I guess especially in this coming heat.

I read somewhere the compressors on the Sevel vans are bullet proof. Not saying it's not the comp but be careful.

Oh ok. If it turns out not to be the compressor then at least I know it’ll be ok for a few years! :giggle:
They can then start to replace cheaper parts until it works!
Also, me being thick here but what’s a Sevel van?

Also you don't "drain" the refrigerant it has to be sucked out slowly by a machine. ie recovered.
Fingers crossed they know what they're doing, but I'm sure they'll get there in the end 😁

Yes, they have the correct machine to weigh the fluid. That was just my way of phrasing it. Sorry.

Ooh, I see. I never knew that. Thanks. (y)
I think the problem mine has is rust in the workings. I’ve just had my sump pan and starter motor changed because they were both as rusty as hell. I had my starter not start on a few occasions and initially thought it was the immobiliser but quickly ruled that out when I smacked the starter with a hammer and it worked immediately. The sump pan was also very rusty and I had it changed as a precaution before it failed on me. There are other parts under there that will be sorted soon too.
I think the causes of the rust are because it gets used infrequently and some muppet removed the plastic under trays that protect the under from road water. I have new under trays to fit once the parts have been rejuvenated. (y)

Most converters don't fit the centre undertray, it's not been removed it was never there.

Good to know! We discovered our a/c wasn't working when we went to northern France a fortnight ago - 2.3 litre 130 hp Ducato, but suspect similar set up as the 3 litre.

With the weather heating up we wanted it fixed. Went to a branch of a chain called 'Speedy' and they said they'd check everything, but warned if it was the compressor it would be expensive.

In the event, they replaced a couple of seals / valves (?) and re-gassed it. Said the compressor was fine. Anyway circa £150 lighter, but ice-cold air in the cab... thankfully! :giggle:

Weather just got hotter and hotter, but the cab stayed nice and cool. (y)

In the fuse box by the air filter there are three relays across the front from memory the centre one is for the air con. On a couple of vans I have had to take the relay out clean and very slightly twist the blades to make contact. I would check that although it means charging the system again you will be P off if thats all it is. If the clutch doesn’t engage no compressor ?
