EDIT - I've just noticed that it says on the link below that it can be used with the 50 x 50 but I'm unsure how it fits on. Does it just hang below, so that the blind on the vent can still be used, please (obviously not at the same time as the fan)? Thank you :)

Hi everyone :)

I have an old, yellowing and tatty looking Fiamma 50cm x 50cm roof vent that I'm going to have replaced (by a dealer) with a new Fiamma 50cm x 50cm Crystal vent. Does anyone know if the Fiamma Turbo Kit can be used with the Crystal vent, please? Thank you :)

Here are some links to the two products;

PS It seems strange asking about the turbo vent when it looks like winter outside!! (Heavy rain and thunderstorms!!):oops:⚡⚡⛈️⛈️

The kit you're referring to, a removable fan system, is what we use on our 40 x 40 roof vent. It hangs lower than the blind but it's not fixed in permanently so we just put it in when we want to use it and put it away in a bag when not, takes literally seconds to do this.

In order for it to stay put I took off the end brackets and turned them round as we use it as a kitchen extractor rather than it drawing air in, this means we can just sit it on the ends of the fly and blackout blinds by closing them slightly. Due to the type of roof vent - a push up one - we have to remove it to open/close the vent but if you had a vent with a twist mechanism you could leave it on situ.

As you are planning to replace the vent anyway you might want to consider a combined vent and fan one as it would probably work out the same price or even cheaper.

Hi Minxy

Thank you so much for this informative reply :) It's really helped!!

Firstly, as it hangs below the blind, it's going to reduce the head height below it. This makes a difference to me, as the skylight is above my bed, which is over the garage, and right over the edge of the bed where I climb in. So, it's perfect that it's quick to deploy and take down :) For this reason, I probably wouldn't be able to have an all-in-one unit

Secondly, I though it was going to have to be permanently wired in to work of 12v. This wouldn't have been a problem as there's a 12v supply not far away that I guess we could've extended. However, now I don't need to worry too much about that and can just get another 12v socket put in and plug it in when I need it :)

Thirdly, it's great to know that someone out there has used it and recommends it :) Always a bonus!!

Have you ever used yours on battery power, please? If so, how did it perform?

About the size of the fan. I think it's a 50 x 50. The replacement one in our bathroom looks like the one in the link, which is 50 x 50, so I just assumed it was the same. Maybe not! I'll check.......when it's stopped chucking it down with rain!! We're at home now and I can't even put my nose out without getting drowned!!

Oh, and it's fab to know that it can be used as an extractor, too :) xx

I'll take some photos later so you can see how we use it, I just have a 12v extension lead plugged into an existing socket above the bed which I pug it into so no need for an additional socket, it also means we can use it elsewhere even if there's no socket nearby.

Forgot to say we haven't used it on batteries as with having the extension lead we have no need to.

That's very kind of you, thank you :)

OK, no probs, thank you :)

I think I've made a mistake. This is one of our skylights (actually, this is the one in the bathroom that's been replaced but the other one that needs replacing is exactly the same). Does anyone know what make / model this is, please? I know I could go and look but it's chucking it down with rain!!

OK, it finally stopped raining long enough for me to check and my skylights are, indeed, 40cm and not 50cm. I'm so sorry I got this wrong :blusher:

I also learnt that my skylights are made by Fiamma.

And, disappointingly, I learnt that the Turbo Kit won't work with 40 x 40 skylights!! 😡 UNLESS.....someone here knows a way to make it work :D

Oh yes it will!!!! That's what I've done! I took some photos for you earlier, they show it sitting with it's 'feet' on the blinds, the blackout one is slightly pulled out to make the gap the correct size, this is in the 'extract mode' hence why you can see the rear of the fan. As I mentioned before I reversed the sprung' legs - it was simply a matter of unscrewing them on either side of the fan and turning them round, being careful to ensure the spring bit stays put (not difficult) - the feet would normally face the front rather than the rear as ours do now. The black gaffer tape on the end of the feet is simply so that it gives some protection to the blinds so the plastic feet can't mark them and so they don't slide about (probably wouldn't anyway but best to be safe). To be fair though you might not have to do the feet change depending on how well the fan fits into your vent/sits on the blinds, possibly the casing itself will 'rest' on the blinds thus negating the need to alter them.

You can see the cable at the side of the fan which is held in place at present with some Velcro to our material lined roof, at some point I'll get round to taking the inner cover off the vent and find the electric cabling that's already there and put a connector on so it will be less 'bodgy' looking. :giggle:

Amazing!! Than you SO much :) Laughing at them saying it can't be done. They obviously haven't accounted for inventive people :) In a few days, we're away with work for 4 weeks so I'm going to get the MH booked in for the replacement skylight for when we get back and also get a Turbo Kit bought.....now I know it'll work :) Thank you for your time in helping me xx

Are you able to do the skylight yourself? It's not difficult to do the swap, in fact the hardest part is removing the sealant left by the old one!

I had recently bought a turbo vent kit but it does not without adaptions fit the larger vent with the non wind up lid as the handle gets in the way except at full opening ,this has given me ideas to adapt .So thanks for this thread both of you

I'd love to do this myself, but I'm pants at doing sealant (unless I want it looking like a pigs ear!) and I'm very fearful of the roof leaking again  Once upon a time, I wouldn't have hesitated at having a go but I've lost all confidence in things like this. I used to be very practical but not now, sadly

You could use 'strip' sealant, it comes on a reel, a bit like very, very thick double sided tape, much easier than messing about with squirty sealant but even this can be 'wrangled' successfully.

I had no idea that was available! Thank you, I'll look into that. Do you think it would be suitable for on the roof, please?

EDIT - I found this on Amazon, specifically for motorhomes roof vents!! :)

I'm pretty sure some funsters have used it for the same purpose as you would, can't remember who though. It's also called ribbon sealant, O'learys sell it:

Amazing! Thank you :) I'm excited to do this now......and a bit fed up we're going away so soon now because I want to get on with it :):dance2:

It's a good idea but I have a couple of objections
  1. If the fan happens to stop working, I'd have to replace the whole unit
  2. I know it says the vent and fan blades are transparent but they will stop some light getting through. The end of the MH where it would go is quite dark, as it only has two small windows (one either side), so I want as much light as I can get. I wouldn't need the fan on every day and I'd rather place the fan when I need it and have extra light when I don't.
But thank you for the thought :) xx
