Hi has anyone used the crossing from Civitavecchia to Barcelona with their motorhome? What are the ferries like? Cabins etc. Any tips for cheapest fares (one way) do’s and don’ts? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

We used that one 5 years ago and agree with DBK, basic, food not great, but edible, plus points it saves a hell of a lot of driving if you just want to get from A to B.
We also used the ferry from Genoa to Barcelona in 2009 not a lot to choose between them.
An interesting overnight spot near Civitavecchia are the Etruscan burials at Cerveteri and there is a very good aeroplane museum at Braggiano on the lake, lots of seaplanes.

By coincidence I have been researching Sardinia to Spain this afternoon. It looks like Grimaldi Lines go to Barcelona but only about one sailing a week (Late May). We used various companies like Grimaldi and Corsica ferries five years ago and actually found them ok as long as you allow for a more laid back attitude.
On average we are seeing prices of about £180 one way including a cabin at the moment.

If I remember rightly the ferry from Civitivecchia calls at Sardinia, can't remember which port.
