Ferries to the Isle of Wight

I last went to the Isle of Wight in the seventies but Mrs DDJC has suggested that we give it a try this year. Open-minded, but if it's impractical or ridiculously expensive, we'll get off to Wales or somewhere.

Seems that there are two ferry companies that take vehicles. Red Funnel out of Southampton and WightLink out of Portsmouth.

So if hoping for some guidance.

Q1, do they both take motorhomes?
Q2, do they both take motorhomes with a small trailer?
Q3, which is cheaper (i heard that, per mile, they are the most expensive ferries in the world.)
Q4, which is better?
Q5, which ports have better access and egress?

Any opinions or thoughts very welcome

I priced up the red funnel ones a couple of years ago and price didn't seem excessive.
Didn't go in the end though
I'd check the websites for accurate pricing on dates you require

I have tried, but Red Funnel doesn't provide an online option for a vehicle longer than 5m!

Wightlink also do Lymington to Yarmouth which avoids driving through either Portsmouth or Southampton. You could stop in the New Forest overnight before catching a morning ferry.

A few years ago we used a Red Funnel 'package' with our motorhome, but there was only a choice of four camp sites. Our 'van was just over 6metres and 3 m high. I can't remember paying extra at the
time or what the restrictions were then.

On the website they show the extras for being oversize.

If you don't decide to do ferry/campsite deal , use C&cc or MC & c clubs get 50% discount
I suggest try ferry/c site best value , best campsite with no frills is Whitefield forest c/site walking distance from tesco , on bus route (stop 100 yds from entrance . really great toilet block . any other questions just ask , I lived there for 73 years just moved too Cornwall

The 13M only applies to cars and caravans, for motorhomes it is up to 6m long and upto 2.7m high.
Over 2.7m high you will be charged an extra £11.50 each way. Over 6m long you will be charged an extra £6.25 per mtr over 6 each way so for a 7.5m motorhome it will cost £23 (over height) + £25 (over length) = £48 to be added to the package price.
