So with the huge saga around P&O and U.K. Gov recently I’ve held off booking ferry for august trip. When I did a check recently prices were high for obvious demands and no guarantee route could be changed etc.

Anyone noticing if prices coming back to normal (as normal as life gets right now)!

I’d love to stand my ground regarding their behaviour but on this one I don’t think I can without cutting my nose and families noses off. So prefer to steer away from views politically on this one please.

Read 2 ferries now back in operation and not just freight but another stopped in recent days.

Should I go for it and book or continue to hold off a bit?

A crossing in August is always going to be expensive. But I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. If you don't want to risk P&O use another company and look at alternative routes, for example Newhaven/Dieppe.

The point was around their unlawful behaviour sacking people. Installing agency staff at a fraction of the cost I know some say they’re boycotting and didn’t want this pulled into my query.

May look at the train as suggested as site about 40 mins off calais and don’t fancy huge diversion so to speak

We always use the tunnel if we are going to France. If I did have to use a ferry, I wouldn't use P & O for the reasons you have stated.

Whoever thought of this at P & O needs to be fired. What a complete moron. Ask yourself. Do you want your safety provided by someone who is trained, competent and properly remunerated or by some new bloke on five quid an hour who doesn't give a toss?

I hadn’t thought about the safety issues of these cheap staff and it’s a very good point. We normally use Brittany ferries as we live in the South West but in September are going on an organised tour in the van like we did a few years ago pre Covid! It includes a P&O crossing. Might make some enquiries before balance is due as it’s not cheap.

Certain officers and crew have to be appropriately licensed by the marine authorities in the country where the ship is flagged.

I doubt whether those so licensed are signing up for five quid an hour.

But the press are not telling that part of the story.

So its just the poor sods who flip the burgers and muck out the toilets who are being paid half the minimum wage?
Oh that's all right then.

Won't be using P&O again.

There's going to be an awful lot of products and services you'll be boycotting then.

I thought it had been proven they were all being paid at least the maritime schedule of wages?

I believe Irish Ferries Dov- Cal route use the same "employment terms" that P&O have just moved to
