If u have to switch your gas off on the ferry how the heck do you keep your fridge cool ?

The gas must be off on ferries & they usually check to see that your fridge isn't on.
Remember though, if the fridge is cool before the ferry crossing it'll remain cool for a long time if the door hasn't been opened.

Providing its down to temperature and you don't open it, it will be OK for 24 hours. Some longer route ferries have EHU, we had one on Italy to Greece ferry.

You can't keep your fridge on but, if you don't open the door, depending on the length of the crossing, frozen stuff will remain frozen. We've been from Ancona to Patras, Portsmouth to Santander, Porstsmouth to Bilbao and Hull to Zeebrugge and the food in the freezer was still frozen at the other side.

We regularly travel the 24hour Brittany Ferry to Spain and the fridge stays cold.

We usually freeze a bottle of water or two and leave that in the fridge.

We have never had it defrost.

Don't leave the gas running - they won't like it.

I am told they will let you plug in but have never bothered.

Thanks folks , another worry sorted

Big Dometic R-V Frig: Santander Portsmouth. Still Frozen on arrival. If you have qualms. Freeze up some drinking water bottles, then put them in the chill compartment. We often did that to assist fast cool the frig; after it had stood for 3 months or more in storage in the Texas "Summer" temperatures, before we hit the road..
