(Jim I hope this is OK)

Some funsters will already be aware, but for those who may not, Chris Lewis, an ex 2 Para veteran, has walked the entire coastline of the UK over the last 6 years in aid of SSAFA, the forces charity.

Together with his partner Kate, their toddler son Magnus and rescue dog Jet, they are completing this incredible feat today, where it all started 6 years ago, at Llangennith beach on the Gower.

Chris, Kate, Magnus and Jet have been the subject of quite a few documentaries and features on the way round, and are full-timers, based in their camper van, so I thought their story should be very relevant to MHF. They’ve made the news headlines on TV for the last few nights on various channels too. Chris has written a book called “Finding Hildasay” about the first part of the walk, which some of you might have seen.

We‘ve been lucky to have met them and they are the most delightful and inspiring people; just being in their presence is an uplifting experience. We will be at the finishing line at Hillend Campsite this afternoon, 1230, to welcome them back in. If you’re in the area do come along.

More importantly, if you feel inclined and able to donate, Chris’ justgiving page is:

For those dog-lovers here, Jet joined Chris near Glasgow and has walked with him the entire distance since. She’s a wonderful thing and probably one of the most humble dogs I’ve ever met.

There can’t be many other dogs who’ve walked as far?

I have followed his walk and story for a few years a truly inspiring guy. Love that he met his partner and had a baby along the way. Have frequently donated. Shame we are away in Hereford as we live very close to his final beach and would have loved to cheered him on. Will send congratulations gift instead. Well done, Chris, Jet, Kate and little Magnus.

It all went amazingly today and was an emotional finish supported by masses of well-wishers. A sharp shower as they crossed the line was put down, by Chris’ Dad, as his late Mum having a last laugh. It was a special day and the King’s Head in the village put on a great celebration for everyone. Thanks to all who supported SSAFA and C, K, M and J.
