Anyone point me in the direction of the best European breakdown cover for motorhomes please. Also how do you wonderful folks cope if you get a puncture ? I have a Peugeot Boxer chassis and I'm clueless where the jack point is and if the jack providing would take the weight. Thanks in advance

Others will be along to answer the breakdown cover as I'm just to come off ADAC in a couple of weeks time and will be looking around also.
On the puncture, I'd be calling out the breakdown cover folk to do it for me rather than faff about with the jack provided!

ADAC wouldn’t renew my membership as it had lapsed they told me they were not taking any new members but that could have now changed
im now with the RAC premier think it was about £150 no size or weight limits

Full cover not available to those with UK address hence why I'll be "off cover" when membership expires.

My ADAC expires next month so gone with the Nationwide account which works out cheaper than most of the breakdown deals that I looked at.
If you have a Boxer chassis then you may have a spare wheel under the back end, if you have then I suggest that you have a practice and drop it down and change a wheel.

I've got a trip booked to France in July. I haven't a scooby if it's going ahead but I'll get cover in place just in case

If by chance you're a member of the CMHC try Green Flag via Mayday, no weight or height restrictions.

It's not European, which is what the OP was asking about.

Dual recovery
If your vehicle breaks while you're on holiday and we can't fix it at the roadside, you can choose what to do. We can take you home, or take you to your destination and then take you home at the end of your holiday
.

As an experiment, I chose full cover which came to £189, and European cover wasn't included at all. :(
Years ago, they wouldn't cover us for Southern Ireland, but told me that if I had the vehicle recovered to Northern Ireland, they'd sort us out then.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We use Arrival by RAC, it even included a free years membership with the camping and caravanning club. It's personal cover so me and the other half in any vehicle in the UK or Europe. Not had to use it yet but the cover is pretty comprehensive! We did previously have Greenflag cover but they have a vehicle age restriction for European cover and will only cover one vehicle abroad

Worth checking the terms of breakdown cover, some are very limited in where they will recover too. Some have milage limits some nearest garage etc.
Some repatriation and driver, so it's not straightforward comparing the level of cover and premium. A little investigation is worthwhile.

Apologies, missed that. We use Red Pennant travel insurance again via the CMHC when traveling abroad, provides full breakdown cover including personal and vehicle repatriation.

plus any vehicle in which I'm a passenger.
Not strictly accurate although the cover is excellent.

.... any vehicle registered in the UK, being driven by or carrying the Nationwide FlexPlus
account holder(s) or a vehicle registered in the UK and owned and registered to the
account holder(s), which is being used with the permission of the account holder(s)
and does not exceed any of the following dimensions when fully loaded:
- Caravans and trailers - 8 metres in length (including A-frame).
- Motorhomes - 8 metres in length or 7.5 tonnes in weight.
- All other vehicles - 7 metres in length, 2.3 metres in width, 3 metres in height or
3.5 tonnes in weight.
- All vehicles must also meet the criteria specified in Section B -

Like others have said we get it included as part of our motorhome insurance. We are now with Comfort, but have been with Safeguard and Saga before and they all offer it as an extra. Much cheaper to get it that way rather than buying a stand alone policy.

Thanks Peter. I don't mind spending a bit more. I want it all singing and all dancing. If I breakdown in France I would want them to take me to the campsite and return me home. I'm pretty sure there are companies that do that it's just finding them

Caravan and Motorhome Club have Red Pennant foreign travel cover members are slightly cheaper, you can get and pay on line if you like what you can see all the details of cover on the website. We have used it for years as it is a phone call away.

Well mine will do that. It will arrange for me to be towed somewhere to be fixed and pay for my hotel costs whilst it is being fixed. If local repairs are not possible it will pay for us and the motorhome to be repatriated home. What more do you want?

But, as with all breakdown insurances, it will not pay for the repairs, they are still down to me.

We were with ADAC and they were good but as others have said they no longer cover UK customers fully.
So another vote for Nationwide Flex.

You can't take holidays until after may 17th?
yes May 17th for foreign holidays but of course we are now ahead with vaccines so i have no idea how EU will be coping with visitors by then?
One thing - Vaccine passport would easier to show for EU entry / allowing travel.
Insurance should be reduced from lockdown time?
