Thanks for that Parky, yep that would be about right for me, guess I'd better hedge me bets then, I'll buy half now and half later, that way I'll ether be half pissed off or half happy

I think (but what do I know) that the rate should improve a bit but it is already around 1.38 and might go to say 1.40. It is however, all a gamble and UK interest rates and Grexit will pull it either way.

I think doing a bit now and a bit later is sensible. The difference is only the odd percent or so.

Unless you are planning to spend tens of thousands of Euro the amount it is going to vary is not going to make much odds, whatever happens it will be cheap compared to the last few years.
We never carry much cash especially in France where CC are accepted practically everywhere.

Current exchange rate about 1.38 but who knows how it will move. I use TransferWise to transfer Pounds to Euros into an overeas account. I have found there rates better than most.

Nope don't like giving companies my hard earned cash upfront, once the Travelex Supercard gets going it could be the best answer.

I have used Caxton in the past but they are too expensive. Travelex may not be the answer. I use Transferwise to transfer money to a Euro account. I have not seen any better rate that theirs.

We use a mix, the saga card, cash and fairfx. We load the FX while away if the rate is good, the card didn't cost us anything and there are no charges on the saga card either.
@Flamenca How easy/difficult is it to open a euro account?

Post office mastercard for most things and the caxton card for cash withdrawals as there is no fee. Fairfx tends to give a better exchange rate but charges fir cash withdrawals. Use tesco travelex prepaid cards for the children as although the rate is not as good they will do an urgent replacement card anywhere in the workd and also arrange funds at a bank/ postoffice type of thing. Applied for the card on martinlewis but awaiting email so dont think ive got one. They all have pros and cons I feel.

We've used the Halifax Clarity credit card ever since we started using the van abroad. It's kept just for the holidays. No charges (except a little interest on cash withdrawals) and the exchange rate is excellent. Accepted everywhere we've been in France ........... except the Flot Bleu in Les Menuires!

I pay for most things on CC when in France - I've got a choice of 3 which are all fee free: Nationwide; Saga & Metrobank.

All cash is withdrawn using Metrobank Debit card - again fee free.

Thanks Andy Just applied for one of those as well. Still have a fair bit left on my Caxton card so will keep both for the time being. The UKash rate is 1.36 at the moment.

As you live in Cumbria why not have a Cumberland B S account?
They give you a debit card, no charges on foreign transactions and a good exchange rate, very close to the Interbank rate.

They give you a debit card, no charges on foreign transactions and a good exchange rate, very close to the Interbank rate.

Saga covers that for us and matches the interbanking rate

We use them for all our cash too s great rates and free delivery if you order over £750 just a bugger when you are away and see the rate is good though. Like yesterday we wanted to take advantage of the rate but son wasn't at home to take delivery.
