Has anyone any recommendations for sites as close to Edinburgh as possible? Ideally near transport links
Thanks

You can stay any where along the north east coast.
We park at the nearest local station catch a cheap commuter train into Waverly station, in the very centre of Edinburgh.

We have stayed at Mortonhall Caravan & Camping, easy bus ride into centre from the road at the end of site. Big site open all year round ok for off season but imagine it would be rammed in summer.

It's worth looking out for Temporary Holiday sites run by the C&CC at the Drum Estate, Danderhall.
Very convenient on the A7, just off the Ring Road but very quiet.
Bus stop right outside into the City Centre.

Quick look shows these dates planned...

01 to 18 April 2022
03 to 15 May 2022
09 to 20 June 2022
05 to 30 August 2022

Edinburgh C&MC site or Mortonhall, stayed at both, easy bus access to the city centre. The C&MC site usually has a shuttle bus runnng into the city. You can walk it, we did once, about five miles!

Yeah if it specifically sites you are after then the 2 mentioned above is all there is. There are other options for over nighting, PM me if that is something you are looking for and I could give you some good spots.

A company used to run the pop-up camping which was only open when the festival was running. They obviously stopped for covid but I have just seen they don't think they will be starting up again as the Royal Highland Showground has decided to charge them 4 times the rental figure 😵

Thanks - we’re going for the festival in August so a shuttle bus would be great

I’d recommend the CMC site but I wouldn’t bother with the shuttle bus as a gentle 10min walk will get you to public transport, shuttle bus is £5 EWPP bus is £1.70. One of the busses is quite direct where the others go round the houses if you want the best number to get I can ask my daughter as we owned a flat there while she was at uni or before you go download the Uber app as this will give you more options and normality cost about £6 ew.
You can also cycle off road to Haymarket then cycle lane for about 1/2 mile to centre.

If you want full site facilities , then the CAMC Site is great. Walk up the lane at the side of the site and you will get the Council buses either direct or via Leith.
If you don't need full site facilities, then the THS at the Drum Estate at Danderhall is also easy to access the city as the bus stop is at the entrance to the site. Costs will be about £10 per van per night.
