ECU on Peugeot Boxer not recognising ignition key after flat battery Anyone have a fix or what I need to do as van won’t start and padlock light show

Try locking and unlocking the vehicle with the key remote, or manually with the key in the door. Check the key battery is ok. If flat or low in power the ECUwill not recognise the key .

This may sound a bit far-fetched but make sure you havnt got the on a ring with lots of other keys because that has confused cars of mine in the past and I used to have a lorry that wouldn't always recognise the key and if I banged the key on the door frame then tried it again it would start

Try this
Put the key in, ignition on, and press the lock and unlock while the ignition is on, no cranking. Turn off, then on and wait 30 sec. Then start the engine. Oh, make sure the battery in the fob has juice.

Not sure about your particular vehicle but one particular trick to clear faults generally can be to remove the ECU fuse and leave to 10mins or so. It can help it reset itself.

Thanks so much for all your advice - i had a mobile key guy come out yesterday and plug his machine in and it said there were 7 different error codes which he couldn’t clear and thinks I need an ECU reset. But I am going to head out and try all your suggestions first thing in morning (just got back from work) in hope one of them works - fingers crossed and thanks again - I’m new to this site and so stoked to find it so helpful - cheers Paul

When this happened to me I had to reset each key through the Sigma alarm pad .

Hi - I'm new to this forum and found your thread, which is the first one I've found with an identical problem to mine. I'm just wondering if you resolved it? My Boxer is a 2018, which apparently doesn't have an ECU reset function. It seems I can remove the ECU and send it off for a replacement. HOWEVER - I can't find it! I wodered how you eventually fixed your problem?

Ah - thanks! Possibly someone else has some info. Strange how hard it is sometimes to find a little silver box under a bonnet!

Is this of any help

Thanks Jim but sadly not. The key is OK and synced to the BSI, so it opens the doors. However the ECU permanent fault codes indicate that the ECU is not communicating with the BSI - which means the immobiliser can't be turned off. Currently stuck with a very expensive wardrobe in my drive!

Oh yes! This thread is the only one which starts with an identical problem. I did also try all the (sometimes very strange) suggestions on how to fix it. I ended up getting a locksmith round, and I have all the permanent error codes telling me that the ECU needs replacing - since on this model it can't be reset. I was hoping to be able to remove it and get a replecement online. Hence the thing I CAN'T find anywhere is how to remove the faulty ECU. Fortunately I've jus discovered I have a Peugeot specialist just around the corner! He can definitely fix it, and I plan to watch!
