Granddad used to breed and show rabbits, any that did not make the game went in the pot, had a hen shed with chickens for eggs and food, can remember all the peelings been boiled up on the cooker to mix with the hen food.
Most of the vegetables were grown in the garden, all in granddads, my Dad was in the Navy when he came back he and my uncle used to experiment making curry's always put a fried egg on top.
Mum used to make potato cakes on a Sunday afternoon for tea, and the dripping off the meat on toast wonderful especially the brown jelly bit.
Cheese and onion pies with a bit of potato were a real treat.
Christmas used to be amazing would have all the extended family and mum and Nana would cook on a small cooker for a couple of days, pressed tongue,ham boiled, big trifles, mince pies, and a couple of the hens out of the garden, I used to think it was a treat to pluck them and pull all the little eggs from inside, when I was only eight or nine;
Amazing the way we change from generation to generation.
