This info has been posted on another forum.
Couple have lost their MH due to fire.Possibly caused by an e-bike battery combusting when in the awning and not on charge!!.Be careful where you store due to current high weather temperatures.
Take care..
 
Very odd as ours are used every other day and left in 38C sometimes for hours without a problem.

Perhaps a cheap make.........

Had ours now for 4 years in Spain.
 
Lithium batteries can go over-voltage if charged cool but then left in a hot area - like an awning. They ca then catch fire. Dangerous things

This applies to ALL Lithium batteries ie: mobile phones, laptops, smartwatch etc etc etc. not just to ebikes.
 
It only says it is a possible cause. Not all lithium batteries carry the same risk. Lithium Cobalt and Lithium Manganese have higher energy density and risk than Lithium Iron (LiFePO4). The quality of manufacture is also important. It is a bit like saying all cars might burst into flames, they are a fire risk but built and used properly it is a minimal risk that we are all prepared to live with.

Agree, LiPo and LiCo are the most unstable at high voltage and excessive temperature. Poor management and lack of active cooling, can result in sure fire. I’m not sure about the Mg mix. But,
As a note: if you charged them fully at cool temperature that’s safe. Keep them away from heat. What is not safe, is to bring the said fully charged pack in the sun/ heat. It doesn’t mean the voltage rises, it means the fully charged voltage is not safe/stable at elevated temps. The Li ions penetrate the separator due to heat stress and high voltage, and short the anode to cathode. Thermal runway and a 3500 degC fire.
LiFePo4 doesn’t do that, but is not as high energy density as the others.
