I honestly don't believe they are that bothered, I have done 5 trips to France since last September and not been searched apart from looking for 'illegals' which I would help them with anyway.

My car and van is going on the flatbed unaccompanied. Do I have to remove and drink the unopened booze? There's quite a lot of it...😇
John, you have had enough to contend with...however the driver would be interested to know what he/she is carrying...it may be in their interest to know what's on board....

My son had his van repatriated last year and 'apparently' no-one wanted to look inside as it was locked and on a flat-bed, however, as you have had your holiday cut short and were unable to consume due to illness, I believe they would understand.... blimey these people are after organised gangs, not a little old man bringing back a few bottles extra. The one comment I would make is that if you do try and hide it...... you are fair game as that has then moved from a genuine reason to a underhand deception !!!!

Low loader /flatbed Driver has to have the keys & vehicle documents before he can travel. Otherwise it is illegal.

Is it actually 'Duty Free' if you bought it at a normal shop?

If the customs really do not check vehicles on a low-loader the drug smugglers wil soon be onto the opportunity!

Agreed. I'm referring to the post bbbbbxt import allowance, which is ample for most prospective members of AA!

You might be able to fit five illegals in at £10k a pop (y)

I decided not to take umbrage as it could be true!😱
Coming from Hamble I expect it is....... :giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:......... catch you in the 'Bugle' for a glass when you get back, and good luck with the van...... my son's took 2 months to get back !!! apparently they won't ship until there is a full load ( on the F/ Bed ) and only when the crossing is at low costs ???

Well as it is it is coming from the Isle of Wight you will proly get away with it, but I would make sure and just drink it

If you got the booze in the UK - and have a receipt for it - then you're ok! Jaws says you're coming from IoW, which is the UK, so there shouldn't be an issue. Did all the booze come from there?

I think we should always prepare for the unexpected and that could be an inspection! Do you have any foolproof hideyholes? It could be as simple as putting a piece of dark cardboard over the rear of a wardrobe, or inside the bathroom cupboard - 'yes officer, the owner often grabs a beer from there while on the loo!!'.

Seriously tho, if its a repatriation following a traffic or health incident, then the risks would be low as the vehicle has been in the hands of the insurers and their agents since they took charge. Maybe just leave it as is and then no one can accuse you of trying to cover anything up!! if they take a bottle or two because it's in excess of the limit, but leave the rest, then that's ok - at least they won't prosecute because you have grounds for not being able to clear the van beforehand?

It's 34C today, that's 90F in old money! Will be glad to get home.
Blimey....... wish it was here...... we are at St Jean de Mont and its been 38........ on the thermometer in the van its 42...... just a tad too warm, but, am getting calls from home.... my brother had the C/ Heating on last night !!!!!!.... No pleasing some people !!!

A friend of mine used to transport very expensive cars all over the world and I can assure you that they DO get checked thoroughly for drugs and illegals, but little else. It was a regular occurrence to be pulled in and a dog put in to check. It was in the transport terms of service in the contract that the haulier took no responsibility for any damage caused during checks or dog hairs on the upholstery
