My new van doesn’t seem to have a dump lever for grey waste, you have to use the phone app or touch screen command module inside to open the electronic valve, if inside you can’t see what going on or if you are over the hole, so have to get out to check then go in and activate it then go out and see if it’s done, there is a gauge on the command module but why the hell do designers have to make things complicated? a simple lever would do me! Oh it dumps the fresh water as well if you want!

It's called progress, great until it goes wrong, then your stuck with a full tank of grey waste unable to dump it !

My point exactly, I like progress but some things are best kept simple, apparently I can dump it remotely from anywhere in the world through the phone app and the van Wi-Fi. I hope I find a manual override have put that on my handover notes ?

Has it got a failsafe on it to stop you hypothetically activating the drain release whilst driving above 10mph ?. Just wondering.......☺️

Why on earth would any designer think anyone would need that function, baffling.
As you say, they probably forgot the manual override.

My new van has the latest new Swift touch screen Command module so not sure if this is a new thing on the latest version or been around for 2yrs plus on the version 1, but not something I would see as a priority, if you have to get out to check your in position why not be able to pull a lever without having to go back in and through a load of user menus to find dump? The command module is duplicated on the phone app so guessing it can be done by that, I won’t know until Wed when I get it.

Does anyone else have the capability to dump remotely, and if so is it useful and what are the benefits?

Cousins have/had this.
Doesnt dump with engine running as there is no 12v.
British van design.
Swift bessacar.
Also he said he had left it open for winter storage. Came back after a few weeks valve closed and frozen.
Turned the 12v on and the valve tried to open and sheared all the bits inside.

Mine has a heated grey water tank, maybe worth leaving that on in winter and valve closed, thanks for the heads up ?

I should have thought if the designer wanted to be really clever, an underslung (self-cleaning) camera would be positioned so you can see from the cab when you are in the correct position relative to the drain, to empty the grey waste. ;)

But totally agree, it sounds a ridiculous use of technology when a simple lever would work perfectly...

Sounds a bit like the floating magnet in the toilet cassette that will tell you when it's full.

Like I need to be reminded

Maybe I will get it disconnected and a proper real valve put on, the more I think about it the more stupid it becomes, as mentioned if iced up things could sheer as you are inside pressing dump with no idea what the hell is going on, worst case of utter b@llocks I have seen on it apart from the childish sloppy mastic!

I just can’t get excited about picking it up on Wed, will probably sell it before we use it in July/Aug next year and get something decent ordered, got my eye on the Carthago Model 53 L with Fiat Ducato AL-KO double axle with Iveco Daily 65C with permissible gross weight of 6.7 t ?

Someone will get a great deal on pretty much zero mileage piece of the best of British workmanship van fully loaded next year, complete with sloppy mastic and the best of British ideas included i.e. The capability of dumping anywhere in the world remotely, viewing strictly in the dark ?

Mine is electric but nice and simple a switch on the dash. There is a service camera option but with Hymer's silly prices I fitted my own.
Brilliant I can drive up to the service point get the pipe right over the drain and dump without moving from the driver's seat.

Can you see yourself dumping remotely, is it on your phone or another screen, I guess you only need a black and white camera if dumping grey waste ? Just seen your link I missed it, thanks ?. I might get a multi display screen for side and underneath cameras, I saw them at the NEC yesterday, not too expensive and cameras are very small.

I use WhatsApp to tell my wife to press the switch to open the valve. Benefits I don't have to go out in the rain.(y):)

So did theirs tbh.
They come on only when reading a certain amount of water and give the hab batteries a good work out.
In winter they will take out more than the solar can give. Hence theirs froze.

All my cameras I wired into my stereo as the pics on my thread l linked to.
The camera was less than a tenner.

Mine is in my driveway climate controlled with dehumidifier and heating, we have it plugged in all the time, maybe I need to put some of that pipe lagging on the pipe ?

Does she get the hump when she has been out in the rain for ½hr because the What's app message hasn't come through? ?

I have the upgraded stereo to Sat Nav with big screen on the new van, don’t know the model or who makes it, will need to check if there is an AV option on it, otherwise it would be another screen. Thanks, your system looks fantastic ?

No need if hooked up all the time.
Just keep the tank heaters on and water topped up.
Your good to go at any time ?

Haven’t you answered your own question? Select to open the valve, remove fuse from system, fit a turn off valve toward the end of the disposal pipe and you have your lever and manual system.

Normally double din units have a camera input and two AV inputs.
You don't want to use an AV input, if you do and select AV input it will cut the sound from radio or any other much source.
I used the camera input and switched the input via relays. Also added a front camera, it appears later in my thread.

I have another electric valve for the fresh water as well, may be on the same fuse, will investigate on Wed when I pick it up and start chopping in Sherwood Forest Thur ? ?

On purchase our Hymer DL was fully specced up so we have a remote dump with the camera option, it is a great system enabling me to position the van over the dump site or drain but crucially its shuts it off when engine is started so no snail trails from me when leaving a site. My preference is to drain the greywaste every day/ other day into a bucket and pour into the campsite drain or whatever is provided. The camera allows me to watch and shutoff the drain as the bucket is full.
