Hi all,

Our van a 2009 Fiat Ducato base has a standard single din radio and I’m tempted to change it for a double din with Satnav, DAB, WiFi and capable of connecting our phones to it so........

Does anyone have any suggestions on type, make etc cos I ain’t got a bloody clue what out there, been looking but it’s a mine field.

I would suggest one with Apple CarPlay and Andoid Auto. You can then use your phone for navigation, music, calls etc. All using the double din screen. I have a Pioneer one which I am very happy with.

you can spend ridiculous amounts on a unit by a top manufacturer or a fraction on a cheap chinese jobbie that to be honest is nearly as good. They can mirror your phone screen and use its full functions. Spending more than that is a waste of money in my opinion

I bought our van used and it came with a pioneer unit with reverse camera and satnav. It all works, but updating the satnav is near impossible. I just picked up a second hand dual din head unit for £20 that has all the same functions and will use google maps or the paid for tom tom app. still has all the bluetooth phone connectivity, so my entire phone book is accessible at my fingertips plus any music in the world

I stuck with single Din as I use a tablet as satnav etc.

I bought a Sony head unit for about £70 (from memory) that came with a mic and can have two devices connected via Bluetooth at the same time. This meant I can have the tablet and my phone connected.

I also bought an adaptor that made the wiring plug and play and the steering wheel controls work. The adaptor was about £35 from here:

I was going to swap the speakers but, surprisingly, they sound quite good with the new head unit :)

I bought a used double din one from a funster and took out the single din one, needed a bit of cutting and a new fascia unit but it worked out well. Does not have sat nav but I did not want that anyway.

All in after is radio that has DAB net access plays apps not worried about satnav cos I got a separate device.

As for reversing cam I have that already so just looking for summit better.

Don’t buy this one.

its poooo

Halfords had a deal on that gave free fitting and required necessities when I was looking

As a result, I got the Bezel/surround & the cable adaptor (worth about £45) and fitting for free - radio was on special offer (it had all the bells & whistles I wanted) so 100 notes all in

To be fair, I do have a separate Satnav & am very happy with it, so my radio choice didn't include it

Now that was my other question regarding Halfrauds is if I had it fitted any accessories is that included or extra.

Just been looking at the double din Pioneer EVO82DAB......... cough splutter......

Jezz arm and a leg.

This is the one I have. Hopefully a bit less of a cough and splutter but the Apple CarPlay justifies it for me.

But if you think they are a 'fraud' don't shop there🙂

That’s what everyone calls them but I have a trade card that helps on some items.

Do you need a fascia for this radio or will it just fit?

Plus what about change over power lead?

Pioneer Z810 DAB-C is what I fitted and it has everything you’ll need as it’s the camper version.

Ours was fitted by the dealer when new, I only supplied the radio. I believe they had to replace the single din surround with a double din surround which they said was a standard Fiat part. The radio came with what appeared to be standard wiring connections.

The only notable difference was the need for a usb to lightning lead for data connection to the phone. It is plugged into the rear of the head unit and has been conveniently routed to a small storage compartment on the top of the dash on the passenger side. The radio has bluetooth but CarPlay and Auto need a proper data connection which gives you on screen control of the phone including navigation, music and calls.

Thinking further about this I think the radio came with a usb to usb extension lead which is what runs to the storage compartment. We have simply left a usb to lightning lead plugged into it. You need to have the phone somewhere it can pick up GPS satellite signals so burying it in a lower position may not be ideal.

I fitted a Xtrons Android unit of fleabay about 3 years ago, been good, far better than the pants unit Autotrail fitted.

Pioneer Z810 DAB-C interested as it’s an all in one but can you add your own apps, watch tv etc or is it just a up market radio with DAB.

You seem to be paying a lot for a built in navigation system when it also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You have a choice of 5 or 6 navigation apps on your phone that should work with touch and voice control using the full screen.

Yeh true I already have a quality satnav all I’m after is a android unit that gives me satnav as a backup, DAB radio, dvd/cd player, TV if available and capable of adding my own apps.

Although Pioneer are quality they demand a quality price and some after market units do quite well but need pointers from those that have changed their units.

Diablo, you say you bought an Xtrons one a few years ago, did you have any grief when joining it up to the t.v.? Did you have to buy a DVB-T dongle to act as an interface? Can you let me know asap please? Thanks! Russ

No problems it was a straight swop, didn't have to buy a dongle for DVB-T, I think I had to buy a small adapters for one of the connections but cant think what for, it may have been the Ariel, I'm up at the storage later and will have a butchers.

It was a coaxial to F adapter for the aerial, and I also had to ground one of the wires to make the reversing camera come out to play and I also had to buy a different surround bezel. As said had 3 years no problems but I have just been looking it doesn't seem like they do the same model anymore.

The only annoying thing with it is there is no way of turning off the unit screen when watching the telly so you have that on and the TV at the same time, we just cover it over.

We've got an Xtrons TDS696ADS (bought on advice from Dane Diabalo but not same model as his) and had to get an SMA Male to F-Type Female adapter to connect the TV aerial cable to the unit.

We also had to get the same coaxial to F adapter for the radio aerial.

Did you use the original aerial to get DAB or do you need a DAB specific aerial?

Thanks for your responses peeps!

Cheers!

Russ
