Having been looking at the new 2.2 ducato recently I'm amazed how much it costs for the power upgrades from 140bhp. 160bhp if you can get it is about £1000 and the 180bhp is around £3000 extra. What the heck do you get for that? Are clutches, flywheels upgraded? A remap is about £400

As an alternative, I’m currently considering this for my 2.3

TDI Tuning

I also thought about this and did some digging.
Have a look at this test video. Don't expect to get everything they claim and remember that the biggest increases are in rev ranges that you probably wouldn't be using in a motorhome.
On the plus side, the TDI seems to be the best of the bunch.

I don't think it's just a chip upgrade is it? I always though they upgraded other bits. Turbo, clutch, cooling etc. But I might be deluding myself.

If it was just a different map why would they bother with the 120bhp spec.

We have a 2018 2.3 180 and I believe it’s twin turbo and a few other bits 🤔

That sounds cheap most converters want £2000 for the 160 & £4000 for the 180.
There are various mods to the engine different turbos, the 180 has different pistons I think & the 160 /180 I think have upgraded brakes etc.

Chipping may only be £400 but if the engine lets go no warranty and £10k for a new engine.

This explains very well why the run of the mill tuning boxes are not a very good idea.

Arghh that makes a lot more sense if all these upgrades are being done, hadn't thought about the turbo and the brakes (does the 180 have discs all round?) and I personally wouldn't take the chance with a remap especially if under warranty.

Anyone had a remap and had recommendations to do any upgrades so the base vehicle can cope ?
