Ducato nine speed auto announced

it guarantees outstanding reliability and durability thanks to the torque converter that makes up for the lack of traditional clutch.

I was reading that this morning, notice apart from the 180 all the engine powers are up a bit. Doesn't what type of auto gearbox but I doubt it will be a proper auto with a torque converter.

Found it didn't realise Electraglide had posted different links I thought it was a double post.

interesting the new 9 speed auto is a torque converter, not robotised manual

I wonder if it is still a robotised box though just with a torque converter rather than "auto clutch"

Unlikely to have TC and a scg as a TC precludes the need , and a 9 speed would be a big box if it wasnt a full auto .

I can't imagine FIAT building a 9 speed manual gearbox!! I would expect it to be a version of the IVECO auto box.

Lets hope it a DSG gearbox like fitted in Audi's & BMW's, we have had two, so impressed with the seamless changes, workshop guy told me "it works on Fuzzy Logic"I wonder if it was designed by a lady then?:imoutahere:

Thats Still 8 speed in 2020 model update I believe and I would think it would be too big for the end of an East West engine. The 9HP is a ZF 9 speed for transverse engines so that is my bet and according to a bit of googling its control module has Fiat part number on it.

Our 3 litre 3 series BMW is the ZF 8 speed but not DSG, M3 might be though but I can't fault ours.

I agree about the Audi DSG, absolutely fantastic. I think DSG goes with robotised rather than torque converter gearboxes.

Our auto Iveco is the ZF 8H which is a good gearbox let down by very poor software, but still two gears more than it needs with all that torque.

dsg has two gear shafts and preselects the gear it thinks you will need next whilst you are driving. If your in third accelerating it will select fourth on the other shaft if you let of the gas it will change the other shaft to second in anticipation

Oh god no. 9 gears to go wrong instead of 6. Hope they have done there homework on this one.

Been running in the US for a few years I think and they have about sorted the problems

I also read that there was a choice of double din Android Auto or Apple Carplay head units, as well as the ability to up the idle speed amongst other goodies. Drool...

Sound good! :)

No mention of sorting out the 'cart-like' rear suspension, however.... :( ;)

It does seem like there are quite a few major changes and a proper "auto" box would be quite desirable in my opinion, I guess the first vans on these chassis will be shown at Dusseldorf in September and then first delivery will start a few months after, so who is waiting for the new spec?

Martin

Oooh, this sounds interesting. We're hoping to order a new Motorhome at, or just before the NEC. We will be going for an auto model, I wonder if it will be on the new chassis?

A "proper auto" is something I want on our next van, so it will certainly make more choices available to us.

It would be worth asking, but expect to pay a premium over what the previous version is selling for.

In addition to cost I wonder if there is a weight penalty to be paid? A torque converter auto could well be heavier than a robotised one and the AdBlue system that I think comes with Euro6D is also heavy. Weight comes at the expense of payload and in the sub 3500kg category this can be critical.

Unlikely IMO. All the twin clutch box drawings I've seen use conventional gears but are definitely NOT robotised manuals. Robotised manuals are totally conventional (just like a manual box) innards with a conventional clutch all operated by servos/software. Nine speeds certainly cannot be achieved in a compact space using a conventional gearset so the new box will need epicyclic gears. These can only be installed in a compact

Nine speeds, b hell I often forget I have a sixth gear, was quite happy in the days when I only had three forward gears.

And column change?
