Hi we have just had our motorhome serviced burstner elegance, and they have done the speedo lights modification well what a waste of time still not clear,so I ask them to reverse the mod as I did not want the lights on all the time, and they said that it can't be reversed as it's a fiat mod which happens when they plug there computor into the ECU,is that right??

What's the modification? Ours are alright standard x250. Peugeot though if that makes any difference.

Oh no it's much worse. Whenever a modern vehicle goes in to a main dealer for work or service it is connected to the manufacturers computer system. Any updates that the manufacturer deems necessary are uploaded to your ECU whether you want them or not. Permission is not asked and you have to live with whatever they think is best for you. It isn't only dashboard lights!

My Fiat X290 got updated when it had a fault on the Turbo. When I went to collect it the milage was flashing which means the ECU was not happy. On investigation they found that it was because I had removed the UConnect5 Sat Nav and replaced it with a Blaupunkt. The ECU was expecting to see a Fiat Sat Nav. All was not lost however as they then told the ECU that the vehicle didn't have a Sat Nav anymore and it was happy BUT the steering wheel controls would not work because you don't need them if you don't have a Radio / Sat Nav. In the end it finally got sorted and now it all works. The dashboard light mod is hardly a solution as when you have sun glasses on you cannot see the display. However the Blaupunkt Sat Nav is Android based so I have a Speed App that lets you see your speed in big numbers superimposed over the map.

FOR THE CLUSTER light problem

Two of our biggest customers in the uk are Motor home dealers. The Faults that have been described on these forums are extremely common and we see them every day.

Dimly lit LED warning lights and draining of the battery are the most common faults as well as the gauges sticking.

The LEDs Fail for 2 reasons, jump starting flat batteries and Cheap unreliable components.

Solution: We Replace all the LEDs with Superior European Quality ones and give a lifetime warranty.

The Gauges often fail when they dry out inside and seize up when the vehicles have been left over the winter months.

Solution: We Replace the Motors with upgraded European Motors which have a protective coating inside and again give a lifetime warranty.

We have a solution for all problems and charge a fixed rate of £150 inc vat to repair these instrument cluster faults.

We have a next working day Postal service if you would like to remove and send us your instrument cluster to us for repair or failing that if you fancy a trip to our workshop in Hampshire we can remove repair and refit your instrument cluster while you wait. Our telephone number is 02392 265986.

Hope to save you all some money and stress.

Happy Motoring.

Richard

Richard,
Having had some pretty heavy but unfruitful discussions with Peugeot (and with VOSA) I am intending to go down your repair route. Can you give me any instructions as to how to get at the instrument panel to remove it. It is not at all obvious where to start in removing the trim around it. It would be far easier to courier the panel to you than to drive down to Portsmouth.

I have just spotted in the Training notes on this forum that diagnostic equipment is needed on refitting the panel so it looks as though I need to drive to Portsmouth after all!

Nice to see some one one here who is able to help with these sort of problems I will keep a keen eye on this thread.

I thing Garry @Smith and Sharp may have used this company because of a fault with his dash lights.

Yes I have, I was sort of passing cartronix so poped in but they do offer a postal service.. it is easy to take the dials out and put them back in, no diagnostics required, google removing light cluster from ducato and there's plenty, there's even a how too on vanbiz's website....

Having the cluster done by cartronix has cured all the problems I had with it... i.e. Glowing warning lights and light symbols coming on unnecessary...

I'm not sure about the OP having problems with seeing the speedo though, I think that's another issue and I didn't have that problem...
