Help all, just took my 2005 ducato rapido for the mot; it would appear that the driver's air bag and horn parts have gone missing?????????????? The grey centre is there, but no innards and no sign on the boss to indicate air bag was fitted. Were air bags fitted on 2005 244 2.8 models? Thanks in advance.

i guess the only way to know is to give your chassis number to a friendly FIAT parts man.

I thought i had an under engine plastic panels missing, as 2 of the 3 were fitted. they were able to tell me from my chassis number what parts of the panels were actually fitted at the factory to my vehicle.

as you probably know the air bag is only part of the mot if originally fitted to your vehicle.

what about previous mot's

How has it passed previous years ?

It can only be the fact the horn didn't work that it failed, assuming it did fail.

I would expect the airbag warning light to be on all the time if there was a fault....including missing airbag parts.
Regardless of that, the warning light would come on then go out a few seconds later when the ignition was turned on... That's what the tester looks for, to make sure the warning light both works and is present.

hi no friendly fiat parts man around here. nothing on old mots but the new mot that came into force rules say all lights must function so if airbag was missing at last mot and the light was on it would have passed anyway, the way i understand it . the tester says that the bulb from the air bag has been removed /.

Extremely unlikely someone will break in, carefully remove all the stuff, replace everything they took off to steal the bag AND the warning bulb and horn press then relock the van.
It's more likely unless you owned the van from new, it's been in an accident and the bags been triggered and not replaced which would explain the missing bulb. The wheel center cover will be easy/cheap to replace.

had the motorhome 1 year I have not seen any lights on , but the horn has always worked; has been to 2 repairers for quotes for an accident plus been in winter storage. mot tester has fitted a second button for the horn. He is a trusted fitter and told me all the horn fittings have gone as well.

No offense but I'm having a problem believing any of this.
Someone breaks into your van without any damage, steals not only the horn push but the horn and all fittings as well as the air bag and the airbag warning bulb then puts the whole thing back together making sure there is no damage then carefully ensures the van is secured again.

I'll watch with interest but I'm out.

you can believe what you want but the fact is it has been removed by some one some where since we last used it as i have already stated i did not say that the horn has gone just the steering wheel horn fittings and air bag were missing but the wheel centre is still there but no air bag logo on it and i cannot remember if it was there. has any one got a 2005 2.8 that has an air bag fitted but no logo

Just remembered something else .When i started the Motorhome at the storage compound i noticed that the cruise control light was on and had to switch it off, never done that before. It is going in for some repairs today i will see if the cruise control is working when i,m on the motorway. This make me sure some one has been tampering as before you had to switch it on before the light came on

have you checked the vans history often airbags are not fitted due to cost when a vehicle is repaired after an accident

no the mot tester said it is missing?
I'm not sure if a missing light is possible - is the cluster not a complete unit with all warning 'lights' LEDs that are part of the circuit board? If that's the case the only way to turn any WL off would be via ECU programming.

Motorhome builders can specify what is and isn't fitted. My last van (2005 Hymer) had a drivers airbag but no passenger airbag. My latest 2012 Le Voyageur on Mercedes has no drivers or passengers airbag. In fact no airbags at all. For which I'm very grateful.
