Rapido V68 Van Conversion
Exp
Since 2009
Just arrived back in Spain this afternoon and picked the van up from the storage hall at Chris Parking at Alicante. Torrential rain greeted our arrival.

Travelled down the road to the usually excellent campsite - Las Palmeras, at Crevillent. Immediately notice it had received a makeover since our last stay in March. Water taps installed on each pitch and fresh new gravel everywhere - all looked very smart. Suspect some of the work had been carried out to repair damage from the terrible floods last month.

Anyway, chose a suitable pitch and drove in only for the front nearside of the van to suddenly sink right through the gravel surface.

The pic shows how deep!!

But I was even more surprised I managed to reverse out!! ;) (y)

Thankfully there is a service area here and the mud all hosed off, though hasn't done a lot of good to the paint on the hubcap...

Think I might be looking for a new one.

How do you get on about your vehicle insurance leaving it there?

Have agreed with the underwriter - through a broker - that the van can be stored there during the winter.

The head underwriter assessed the Fort Knox-like security and other aspects at Chris Parking and said no problem! And annual premium perfectly reasonable - I think circa £345. We did it last year as well.

But I admit it was a serious challenge to find a UK insurer prepared to provide cover for long term storage at a non-UK site. Spoke to dozens, large and small and they all insisted on a British postcode. Funny thing is, we are supposed to be in the EU... JUST!! ;)

I would have used the new tap on the pitch as compensation for the damaged paint.
I was going to, but my wife pointed out that would have made the pitch even worse. Needless to say, we chose another pitch.
