Dometic 8505 fridge in my Hymer does not change from gas to 12v. Either on automatic or manually
I have checked the main 20amp fuse which seems ok

It will only run on 12v when the engine is running. Is that not happening?

I have to do mine manually. My 12 volt to fridge is always live. I can switch to it anytime. I don’t know if it changes to 12 volt from alternator with engine running. But I still have to manually change settings on front of fridge.

Thanks for comments, firstly to you Potty, that is exactly what is happening.
It will not change to 12v whilst the engine is running, triangle flashes and if I try to change over manually the same thing happens.
Have checked all fuses including the 20amp fridge fuse all seem ok

Can you check the habitation battery level when engine is running. There will be a relay somewhere (D+) that will only engage when it sees 14v from alternator, if that has failed it might stop the fridge changeover and would also stop battery charging

I am presuming your set up would charge battery from alternator , I think most do 👍

Not correct, with the engine running it will run from the starter battery with the engine off it will run from the habitation battery.

I think it would still swap to 12V even if the element has failed, it just wouldn’t get cold
Here is the install manual which may provide useful reference. I have also included (from the user manual which should have) 2 pages of trouble shooting indicators.

Update on our fridge problem.all fuses checked and ok.through checking fuses and transformer box, detected a burn out connector relating to the fridge.i removed this connecter and unfortunately fridge doesn’t work at all. Luckily spoke to a very helpful guy from Knights at Old Arley who is a Dometic engineer & put us in touch with company to rebuild transformer .
