Hi all, its some 39 years since we last visited Austria. we were frequent visitors particularly to the Tirol region, and have many fond memories.

would like some info please.

i have read a bit about the risks of Lymes disease being an increasing high risk in Austria. i know the population are vaccinated against it.

not too worried about ourselves but our furry friend is less choosy where he EXPLORES and puts his NOSE!

Has anyone travelled and stayed in Austria with their Dog in the recent past who can give me a view of how much of a risk it is please.

thanks for any info..

We have been with ours a few times. Never been bothered, and have just carried on as normal. That’s with a spaniel who sniffs snorks, swims and runs everywhere.

My vet told me the Lyme's vaccination is available in UK now. If it'll put your mind at rest you could ask your vet about it.
A deterrent for ticks is Rose Geranium oil ( exactly that, not rose, not geranium) Dilute it in water with a small amount of vodka and rub through your dogs coat every couple of days. Still check daily for ticks but using Rose Geranium I only found a couple of ticks on my dogs in 7 years in France. This can only be used on dogs, never on cats.

Not sure about the Lyme's but all dogs in Austria need a muzzle in public areas, they're very hot on inforcing it too.
We lost ours in Salzburg and were looked on a leppers until we could find a replacement !

Wow didn’t know that. Also don’t recall seeing any other dogs with muzzles on

We took a little water taxi across Wolfgangsee and the very polite lady in charge said on the return journey she may be unable to allow us on board if any others passengers objected to travel with our dog not muzzled !
It would have been a very long taxi journey back, fortunately the journey was shared with a couple who didn`t object. In fact they enjoyed making a fuss of him.

Pretty sure the muzzle requirement is on public transport not in public places.

Re ticks and various diseases i'd just make sure that the dog is well covered by a good product, Bravecto is our current weapon !

We use Vectra 3D for our two Spaniels. Only used muzzles when going on a cable car.
