Our dog’s tag has our home and mobile telephone together with our postcode engraved on it. But what information do other funsters have on their tag when taking their dog to Europe?

I’m guessing having a mobile telephone number is important but how should a uk mobile number be written to allow someone to call you when overseas? Is it sufficient to have the basic format like 07710 123456 or is it necessary to preceed that with +44 (and then should the “0” be left out)? If putting the country code on is optional, I‘d rather leave it off as it might be a barrier to someone calling if they thought they might incur international charges.

But then they wouldn't be able to call if they found your doggy.

That’s what I was unclear about. Is my mobile number unique to me and would my mobile ring if someone called my number without the +44 when I’m abroad. I’m guessing that my mobile is registered with a network when I’m abroad and they “know” I’m in that country so is the +44 really needed if my number is unique?

No it wouldn't if being dialled from abroad. .It would only work if someone in the UK rang your number.

as above . It is only 'unique' to you in the UK . someone somewhere has the same number in another country that is why they use country identifiers.
If the person ringing you is in the Uk you will receive the call.If they are calling from europe they will either have to have your number in 'contacts' with 0044 on the front or it probably won't work, unless they dial it using 0044 then leave off the 0.
I have spanish numbers . there are only 9 figures in them. If someone in spain rings me when I am out of spain it will find me usually. If they are out of spain as well then it has to have 0034 in front of the 9 numbers otherwise it doesn't work as the calls , in my case ,have to go from my phone back to spain & then on to wherever i am ringing.

If you were in europe & rang me the call goes from your phone to the system of country you are in ,that then sends it to the uk, that then sends it to the spanish system & connects to me.

We always had surname, postcode, +44 mobile number and "if I am lost please telephone the number".

Never the dogs name. That gives anyone the opportunity to take or even steal the dog with a level of control.

Our dogs have our surname, my mobile no, embroided into the collar, no tag to come off.
Dogs name not on it for reasons previously mentioned
Home no and postcode not useful as probably no one there.

It should be on the dogs microchip all your home details, ours has a little waterproof container with contact details for phone/vehicle reg in French, Spanish and German attached to her collar when abroad

Just put +44 without the zero, it will connect from anywhere then, even if being called from the UK to the UK.

We have tags for traveling abroad we put phone numbers with +44 and also reward written in French and Spanish so people will not worry about the cost of the call.
