I kinda pinched this question from a Facebook group but I thought it was interesting. If you tow a car behind you it will clock up mileage ( unless it’s on a proper trailer ) and if you have it insured on a limited mileage policy how do you keep it below the annual mileage figure ?
Is there an easy way to disable the speedo whilst being towed ?

As above, the Toad doesn’t clock up mileage when key in first position to disable the steering lock…

My Peugeot 107 doesn’t clock up mileage when towed on an A frame.

you would have to be doing some serious toad milage for it to possibly make a difference, we would not do more than 6k miles in a non covid year.

As stated..........No mileage clocked up as you put it or ....recorded on the mileometer (`speedo) . The biggest issue with milage is when the engine has done the "Driven" miles. A car with 70k miles would possibly mean something to some folks where as a car with 30k miles on the engine would mean its worth buying. By that i mean engine miles are more of a problem than rolling miles or towed miles..
Just a thought

I think a toad is an obvious conversion, and would most likely be sold as a toad given the £2k+ expense of the conversion, therefore it would should be obvious to a potential buyer that this was a toad, and should (if they have done a modicum of homework) be obvious that it has clocked miles whilst driving and unclocked towing miles. Tyres, and running gear are easily checked. Just my opinion as a toad owner too🤭

We bought last year a 15year old fiat panda toad with 66k on clock, it was converted 10 years ago, engine fine, most of it fine. Despite having front suspension arms and bushes replaced within the last 2 years, to me I could tell suspension, drive shafts, wheel bearings, steering felt like it had done 130k.

What about the extra stress on ball joints, steering, suspension, wheel bearings etc? Not to mention the chassis conversion but best not go there! 🙄

Do remember some years ago reading about a court case where someone had sold a car without divulging it had been a toad. From what I remember the case against the seller was found to be proved

If it was a dealer, it’s definitely risky. I wonder who? 🤔

Private sale, you’d need to ask the right question, and even then, little come-back…. Caveat Emptor!

Does the same go if you tow it backwards ;)
