If like me you're unlucky enough to have a Fiamma awning then you are always at risk of the legs slipping down due to the poor engineering which still relies on the friction from tightening a thumb screw.

The answer is to put something in the leg that stops it going down. I use plastic window trim 30mm d mould, but anything that fits will do.

Ah,I see yours has a different locking mechanism to ours which has a grey plastic cammed lever arrangement.
Its so stiff that when new I was scared to open it it in case it snapped off, a Rally Funster grabbed it and gave it hell, after that shock, I too have been giving it hell ever since.:giggle:

If there is ever a "Next Van" I will not be wasting £1150.00 getting an awning fitted, as we have used ours 4 times in 4 years, slightest wind and its rolled back in, never left out overnight, quest pop up tent is the way to go...live & learn eh?

Those Fiamma leg screws are rubbish. We used to do what you do. We now have an Omnistore and those levers look like they will snap sometime.
I've had the Fiamma thumb screw snap before. I've also had to loosen them with pliers as they can get really tight. I've also had the legs slip down when the awning is weighed down with rain. I found the Thule with cam lever to be perfectly satisfactory but you have to live with what you have.

I must admit we like the awning. It protects one side of the van from the sun's heat and gives some cover for your tables and chairs

We love an awning, but only for when its raining.

I haven't smoked a cigarette for 30 years, but I watched a guy the other day, sat under his awning in the rain having a fag. I used to love doing that. The nostalgic urge to join him was strong, but I thought about how much he must stink and resisted. '\

We use ours all the time, especially if it’s raining, but like you, we don’t tend to leave it out overnight in case the breeze gets up.

Coming from a yacht, we know the effect and power that can come from a large piece of canvas catching the wind! ⛵ Getting up to sort it out at 0300 and realising half way through that you’re only in your birthday suit can be a sobering experience!
