Friend‘s car was booked for MOT March 30th, obviously postponed by the garage and she has an email to say it’s booked in for early May. Does she have to record this with DVLA or notify them in some way? Thanks.

Get them to check on here.

As of 30th March onwards, any car / motorhome MOT will automatically be extended by 6 months.
It should change a day or two before the current MOT expires.

Hi

Get your friend to go onto the Government website and check the MOT status on her car. If it was due recently it should show a revised expiry date for the MOT. I believe the DVLA Are not changing the expiry date until fairly near it’s due date. The new date may be 6 months from the old expiry date

if the expiry date has passed and the date has not been changed contact DVLA and query it.

She can still drive the vehicle even although the new date is over 12 months since last done brocaded the vehicle is roadworthy.

It depends when the mot was due, not when the mot was booked for. Your friend needs to check the due date per the link in Tonkas post above.
If the due date was prior to the 30th March then your friend is only able to drive the car to an mot station provided she has a prebooked appointment.

Thanks, everyone. I’ve just phoned her back and put the registration in and it shows it’s now due October. As she’s 79 she’s not used the car since lockdown but did make a quick trip out to Waitrose late yesterday. Put her mind at rest that she still legal!

Hi Hollyberry

If it is now October she can cancel the May appointment as if she has it Mot'd before then it will run from the Test Date.

It must be roadworthy if she is using it in the meantime.
