Hi,

I have a question.

We are off to Germany soon to return to Morelo for some minor works and a 2-year service on our MH. We will leave it there, fly back to the UK then fly back to collect it when its all done; probably two weeks later (due to our schedule not because the work will take that long).

Would you remove your possessions or leave them all on board?

Every thing in the van is a duplicate of what we use in the house, so no.

We are leaving our van for two weeks next month as we are off to Iceland so have arranged for the first years service and warranty work to be carried out while we are away

Contrary to what people think, workshop staff don’t go rifling through people’s possessions, they’ve seen it all before

I wouldn’t leave my Rolex in but wouldn’t be too bothering about pants and socks, obviously if any personal stuff was going to get in the way of the work I would remove that.

We always remove to make it better for damp test or works . But up to you .

We leave everything in the MH. They are unlikely to disturb your belongings except where they need to check.

once we were searching for a cars wheel nut key and found a she pee in the glovebox so usually ask where wheel nut key is before they leave it

Go European insisted that we empty absolutely everything a couple of years ago when we took our Carthago in for a hab service. Took longer than they did to do the service.

The only time we ever fully empty ours is when it goes for annual service hab check etc. basically to help Dave do his checks without hindrance. It's almost unbelievable the difference it makes to the performance!

But we also treat it as an exercise in removing unnecessary stuff - our rule is if it hasn't been used in the last year (except emergency items of course) it doesn't go back in!

How do you get Dave to do a performance ???

We empty our after every trip and give everything a good clean even though most things are duplicates of what we have at home. For example we would not want to leave bedding over the winter months and ditto clothes. Ditto food that might be an attraction for mice. But we often have more than a month without using it. We also like to vary what we take according to the time of year and where we are going. I would not think there would be an issue from a dealerships perspective unless as somebody mentioned earlier they needed access.

Could be difficult to take everything off if you intend driving it to southern Germany and then back unless you do it non stop each way? When our Flair went back 3 times on a low loader we left everything on it. Could not be arsed to unload and store it. And it took 2 days to unload it and put it all onto the new one anyway.
So in answer to your question no we leave it all on.

I unload everything.

It's an opportunity to review the checklist and ditch some stuff we never really needed to bring.

Last time I left mine with the garage they managed to scratch one of the plastic wheel trims. So I'd be more concerned about light damage than anything else. I couldn't really blame them as it's not an easy thing to prove.

As with people in all aspects of life, most are honest. But I can't include in that group the person who nicked my sunglasses when my car was in a garage for a new injector, or the MOT tester who was a bit sniffy with me when I returned to pick up my car because he'd found the VOSA branded pen that I'd tucked away right at the back of the glove box and presumably thought I was an undercover examiner. He never managed to explain why he'd been rifling through the glovebox either :(

But I suppose two incidents in over 45 years isn't bad, although I tend to avoid garages as much as possible!

If we need to take our van in its normally when we are on a trip so its loaded up to the gunnels. leave the laptop and all sorts of stuff in there. Doesn't bother them when they do the damp check either.
