Not a sexist or funny question but serious, my wife would drive in an emergency but can't say she would be enthralled by it, when I drive to the South of France and back I RARELY see a female driver from any country, same when vans arrive on site its the poor wife/partner being shouted at waving her arms about and trying to stop the van by leaning on it while hubby revs up, WHY IS THAT, are they down the back making Tea?

My late wife and I always shared the driving both in UK and on the continent. It made for a far more relaxing holiday being able to enjoy the views from a passenger point of view rather than having to concentrate on that grey tarmac in front of you! Fortunately she was not a bad driver either!

Saw several women drivers in Europe earlier this year. Have a female friend who loves driving their MH but OH can’t navigate so he usually drives. When they had a caravan, he always got out and she reversed the van onto the pitch. Not sure if they do that with the MH.

I have always driven even when my late husband and myself had an 8.5 metre Frankia A Class mind you I have driven horseboxes all my life.
My partner has only been into Motorhomes since he met me won’t drive abroad so we have a pact he drives to the ferry and I drive the other side.

Actually you are!

Ann will never drive the van, it's not that she's a bad driver, she suffers from lack of confidence and goes to pieces at the mere thought of it.
Even driving the car she thinks I'm watching her like an examiner ? and I'm not at all. I'm so laid back I'm virtually horizontal ?

I must say I think women are better navigators, but driving maybe its a confidence thing, I am sure my wife is a better driver than me but she just will not drive unless really really necessary so how does she build up confidence, how do we get more women to drive, or in fact do they want to?

It's sexist nowadays to recognise men and women are different ?
Oh really, OK I am a pure sexist! AND to answer my question if that his the case why are they not driving?

Are you a northerner?

Let's me think .... why? Now 2 different cases ok ? 1) women with hubby or partner, and 2) women on their own or having their own Moho
1) Fear of the dimensions and scary to be the one who destroyed the joy of hubby's life (of course no matter if it's the woman's joy too !!!!)
Also , fed up with Hubby going, "don't do this" "AHAAAAA watch out!" Or "For F**** sake why you didn't turn left in the first place" ... and so many other soft and loving stuff
2) errrr ... no choice Dear, it is not called KITT () won't drive itself to whetever destination.

Same thing if partner and woman have a van each .

Swerved A frames went straight for the ultimate Coventry bypass thread ??
Who me or the OP? If you mean me I hope you enjoy the rest of your holibobs. See you in a month. I hate driving on the A4053 perhaps I should get a man to drive me on those difficult bits.

I didn’t have a choice as my other half died in a RTA exactly a week after buying our first motorhome. ( RTA didn’t involve motorhome) I drove it back to the UK, then back to SW France a few months later. Sold it and it took me a few years to buy another but when I did I then travelled around a bit of France and quite a bit of the UK.
I’ve seen plenty of women driving motor homes in the UK. In fact stopped yesterday to let a lady driving a huge Moho out of the very tight exit of the local Sainsbury’s petrol station.
I’m beginning to think could I manage another motorhome, if I bought a very small one......

We've only had a MH since April. I have driven 4 times, I've never reversed though. I do prefer to navigate. My husband just likes me to keep my hand in so I can share the driving in Europe. I'm sure I will become more confident.

A reversing camera will become your new best friend ! Well worth having one fitted if you don’t have one.

All I can say is that you must drive with your eyes closed! :whistle2:

Shock, horror, some of us even drive SOLO?
Maybe as I only drive in peak time that it is more families and tend to be more men, outside that time you get the crinklies pottering out and about, you know the ones that hate kids and crowds and just think of themselves, that sort, maybe more women drive then? (y) Just to clarify I am NOT saying all women drivers are crinklies, just that this seems to be a quieter time and if confidence was the issue maybe that suits them. I know why wife would drive more if the roads were not is busy (y)

Some people really love stereotypes , very obvious in this thread ,
The days of gender being a factor , has been pretty much replaced by freedom of choice , and down more to variations in personality and other traits in individuals . JMHO :)
