Has anyone on here made their own Lifepo4 12v battery pack? I have been doing a bit of research and it looks to be relatively simple. You can get 70Ah 3.2V cells for under £50 and good BMS for around £40 and finally an appropriate box to put it in. So around £300 all in. It's just a matter of connecting 4 cells together and the BMS and fitting into the box, around 1 hour tops.

Wissel has done it already, I am sure others have on here but can't remember who off the top of my head.

Yes, I built our 240Ah LifePo4 battery from Sinopoly cells.
The cells, BMS, Victron Battery Protect, 240v charger capable of charging LifePo4, heat mat and other odds and sods came to about £700.

Do you have a 240v charger capable of charging LifePo4, does your solar charger have a lithium setting, do have a B2B charger ?

I've done it (as Gromett said), but it was a while back and not a cheap install.
I went a bit "belt and braces", opting for 4 x 400Ah 3.2v Winston cells, a 123 SmartBms and SmartRelay (so the BMS can switch off loads and chargers if voltage/temps too low or high) and a very clever Votronic charger (VBCS 60/40/430). Very happy with it all :)

My Victron solar regulator can be set for Lifpo4 with the App. Don't have a B2B (do I need it?) and not sure about the Sargent PX300 charger as they can't be configured as far as I know, they have been around a long while and I believe that is the charger Autotrail still fit now.

Was this to me?
If so, the charger I have does everything. It charges at 60Ah while driving, 40Ah on EHU and can take 430w of solar (can run another Votronic MPPT in parallel if need more). It has 4 different LiFePO4 profiles for different manufacturers. My cells are the same as Victron use, so a common profile. The charger keeps them in their sweet spot, rather than charge to the brink (good for LiFePO4 longevity), plus monitors temps etc.
It's a bit of a backup to the BMS in a lot of ways.

Don't forget four 70Ah cells wired in series still only gives you 70Ah but now at a nominal 12 volts instead of the 3.2 volts of the individual cells. This probably gives you the same useable power as say a 110Ah wet cell battery would at less cost especially if you have to change some of the charging bits. Advantages are less weight, space and faster charging but only you can decide if these are worth it. :)
