Hello,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to overhaul the Mekra mirror arms shown in the photo?
The break-away mechanism is either seized or extremely stiff. I do not know which, but the bracket bolts through the side of the motorhome and that is essentially polystyrene and thin plywood on the inside - if I push it any harder there is a fair chance it will just destroy the mounting point on the vehicle.
I tried loosening the 2 small hex socket grub screws but loosening them simply allowed the mirror arm to rotate gradually further and further without the break-away mechanism lifting out of the detent.
Having removed the hex socket grub screws completely the mirror arm rotates fully and smoothly, but with no detent so may not stay out at speed and with a headwind. I would rather get the break-away working again.
Has anyone fully dismantled the hinged part, i.e. removed the 2 large bolts top and bottom to clean and lubricate the internal mechanism? There must be a fairly strong spring in the middle of the hinge to hold the mirror arms out at 90 degrees in the wind and potentially some risk of it flying apart and/or being a PITA to reassemble.
Any advice would be appreciated.
