I’m a newbie
Hi,
I have a two cylinder Gaslow system, but the LHS cylinder does not fill at all, only the RHS one. Have spoken to Gaslow who have suggested that the inlet valve could be stuck or needs replacing. If I make sure that the LHS cylinder is really empty, is it a simple job just dismantling the system? Do I just need a simple cylinder spanner?
Thanks

I assume you are sending cylinder to Gaslow for repairs?
Very simple to take off cylinder just turn gas off at cylinder and undo the pig tail at cylinder.

you can't legally ship a used gas cylinder, even if apparently empty. It would need delivering directly to the company for testing and repair. disconnecting and removing a refillable cylinder is as simple as disconnecting an exchange version. However there are 2 hoses, the hose to the regulator and the filling hose. Don't attempt to refill the other cylinder without either replacing the missing cylinder or adapting the pipework to single fill

Yes. I've just checked mine and the usual Calor cylinder spanner fits this nut.

Obviously the other cylinder must also be turned off ;)

Can you remove a cylinder while full? Does the fill valve prevent the gas escaping? I was considering with the increased difficulty of getting LPG removing one cylinder and replacing it with a calor bottle.

yes you can, if the valve on the cylinder is not faulty and stuck open. There is a one way valve in the fill point and another on each cylinder. Again to convert to one refillable and one calor you need to adapt the fill piping to feed just one bottle and change the pigtail to the regulator to fit the calor

adendum to that, newer cylinders have 2 types, a primary and a secondary. The fill pipe goes via the primary to the secondary. So you can only replace the primary with the pass through with a calor cylinder

Yes, and also turn off the yellow outlet valves on both cylinders.
From the start I fitted one Gaslow and one Calor for the same reason as you.

I’m thinking about replacing the calor cylinders with safefill but I’m hearing some fuel stations won’t let you open the gas locker on the forecourt so wouldn’t be able to refill the safefill. Is anybody aware of this problem? Also do safefill connect with the same pigtail and nut as Calor? Thanks

I have been refused a fill for safefill occasionally, not a huge issue as you just go elsewhere.

It uses the same fitting as Calor propane bottles.

Thanks for the input, my Gaslow system is quite old and when I remove the primary bottle I will have to relocate the secondary to its place. If I do decide to go ahead and ditch one bottle I will empty it as much as possible before disconnecting it.

I just arranged to drop in at the Gaslow facility during a trip away, I needed to swap out the old cylinders for the new version. They did it all for me while I waited.

You are finding it difficult to get a refill of Lpg? I am considering replacing Calor with Safefill?

The majority of garages who used to sell LPG around where I live were owned by Shell who have stopped selling LPG. I think the situation will only get worse as as the use of fossil fuels are discouraged.

It's no prob abroad where I usually do 90% of my travels but in U.K. I've had to travel further for LPG as filing stations discontinue their pumps.
I've found the online LPG search websites to be notoriously inaccurate/out of date as I have discovered when phoning before visiting them.
