We pick up our new Cathargo Chic C Line (Mercedes) next week.

Having it fitted with Scorpion S5 Plus VTS tracker/immobilser but the insurer wants a mechanical deterrent, which they want active from when we collect.

Thinking of going for a Disklock but cant figure the size I need.

Would anyone be able to advise.

Many Thanks

Would the deaker not be able to tell you the wheel size? I think the discs specifications indicate the size of wheel they fit (i e. 14-16 ", 16-18" etc)

I'd recommend a 'base ball bat' type steering lock over a disklock.

Either type can be removed by a professional with the right tools in under a minute.
But as the insurer says, it's a visual deterrent, and it means the potential thief needs yet another tool before they can drive off

I regularly drive vans with both types of lock.

The 'base ball bat' type is easy to lock and unlock and store beside or behind the drivers seat.
This means you tend to use if far more, even if just popping out for a few minutes at say a motorway service station.

The disklock is harder to get off, harder to get back on and a pain to store within easy reach.
Which means it's only ever used when the vehicles go back for the night (and even then other drivers tend to 'forget' to put the disklocks on as it's a pain in the arse to do so.)

Thanks for that, yes I could see the disklock being bulky and difficult to store. Real world experience is very useful - thanks again.

Never seen, on TV or show, a Disklock removed in under a minute.
Can you provide a link? 🤔

As for storage, in my Fiat 250, my medium sized one, sits wedged between the front seats. 👍

To get the correct size for my 2022 ducato van I phoned the disklok helpline who told me to use a medium. After a few uses it only takes me seconds to fit or remove. The carrying case and steering wheel cover is worth having.

Have a 2021 Ducato, a medium Disklok fits on the smallest setting, takes me a lot less than a minute to fit, and even less time to take off. As for storage, well, when parked its on the steering wheel, and when traveling behind the passenger seat in the optional bag

Yes, mine sits very comfortably front centre under the drinks tray. Doesn't get in the way and is very convenient. So we use it all the time.

Plus 1 for the medium Disklock on a Ducato. I have them on both of my cars as well. I think they are a great visual deterrent and would be interested to see one removed in less than a minute as well. (I have heard of a method of getting them off which I won't advertise on here but lets just says it would be specialised and very professional. PM me if you really want to know!) As for the baseball bat type, 1 cordless grinder and its off in seconds. Personally I wouldn't entertain one.

Clutch Claw &/or Disklok for us - see here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/saving-money-with-funster-discounts.8170/ for Fun discount code on Disklok main website but shop around online too.
UPDATE - Disklok's ebay shop https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...&store_name=festivelights&_oac=1&_nkw=disklok there is an ebay discount code SUMMER5 which takes 5% off at the moment or they do bundles with the steering wheel cover (stops damage to leather covers) & bag so could work out best but depends on your requirements.

Raptor adverts claim they can remove a disk lock in under 30 seconds,
possibly unsurprisingly they don't show how they do this to back up the claim.

As per my original reply, both Dicklock, Baseball bat, and the bent flat bar type of steering locks can all be removed by a professional with the skill and correct tools in a matter of seconds.

A steering wheel lock is just a visual deterrent, it means any potential thief need one more tool and yet more time to take your vehicle, as opposed to the one next door without the visual deterrent.

With any motorhome, any antitheft device can be got around, it's just a question of skill, time and tools.
You are trying to ensure it's maximum skill, maximum time and most number of tools.
The more skill, time and tools the better.

Door locks
Alarm
Immobiliser
Tracker
and some other form of locking (steering lock, pedal/wheel clamps, locked seat backwards, etc etc)
and make sure you are insured.

It's about all you can do.

I've been using an original DiskLok "small" size, colour yellow, originally bought after a scrote tried to steal my car from a NCP car park, and snapped the steering column. It fits my 2017 Ducato steering wheel perfectly. Has the lock manufacturer changed the sizes? Or has the Ducato steering wheel got bigger on more recent variants?

When driving, it sits on the cab floor in the middle, on top of a non-slip mat of the type used to line lockers and drawers. It stays put.

One of the weakest points for entry by any thieving scrote is those flimsy plastic windows. I've noticed scratches under one of the back door windows showing someone was trying to break in with a screwdriver, but probably was disturbed and moved on.
