So we're back in France for the first time since before the pandemic. We were interested to see how much diesel is here at the moment.

Somewhat to our surprise we found some on the autoroute (A1, Aire de Reasons Ouest) at Euro 2.089 per litre (circa £1.80), which was less than we've noticed elsewhere on our travels.

I'm sure if we'd gone hunting a bit harder, we'd have found cheaper. What are others paying currently?

Found this website to be useful when looking for the cheapest fuel, within a 20km radius; can also set lower distances.

Our cheapest was 2.08 travelling back from Spain through France last week.Cheaper in Spain though.BUSBY.

€2.059, Intermarche, St Martin de Ré.

Cheapest we got was 2.06 but did pass a 2.05 but I would only have got a litre in there

Last week it was €2.17 at Cite d’europe, and the same price at supermarkets around the Rennes and Carnac area. Motorways are generally around the €2.25 - €2.45 range. Cheapest I have seen is €2.037 which is at Intermarche near Honfleurs where I will be filling up in the morning before my dash for the tunnel.

Don't bother going to the NL then o_O €2.20 +. The closer we get to France through Belgium the less the price. Although we filled up in Germany at €1.96 (y)

Thanks guys! (y)

As said, surprised to find reasonably priced fuel at a motorway service station - wouldn't happen in the UK. :giggle:

I filled up a few days ago in France for €2.001 per litre, filled up 4 times so far and that's the cheapest

€2.05 at Super U Loudeac on Thursday. The most I have paid to date is €2.09.

are the 'cheaper' prices due to Macron introducing a reduction, i seem to think it was around April time and thought it was supposed to last for a couple of months (during the election period strangely .....) but long may it continue as we are going over on the 20th !

€2.01 to 2.05 approx much more on the motorway. One thing we noticed is you have to pay up front so if paying in cash you need to estimate how much you need. And at one pump it didnt stop so i had to go in and pay again €0.24 cents. Nice lady brought us a bucket and squeegy to clean the windscreen.

Where was that Simon? I've not yet come across a situation where I've been asked to pay up front.

On the way south so just north of Dijon in a
Total garage and in Tuornon le Rhone in a Avia garage. Had to go in the shop and pay first. Made conservative estimate of €100 euros. The Total pump stopped but the Avia went over so had to back and pay extra.

Similar prices down in SW France just over 2 euros. If heading into Spain motorway prices are around 2.12 to 2.16 (before reduction) but in truck dealers eg Man at Vitoria you can find 2..06 (1.86). Reduction is confirmed until November.

We're currently in Germany and heading into France shortly. We'll fill up before leaving Germany as diesel is available down to 1.899€ here, remembering that prices are time of day dependant here.
So much for M. Macron saying that he had knocked 18 cents off fuel due to the financial situation!

Since June 5th, From Dieppe down to Nice via Brive, Sete, Montpellier and Marseille, its ranged from 1.98 to 2.18 (Cannes). GPL range .80 to 1.08. Found 2 GPL's that were self serve. I try not to buy from the motorway services.

A little unfair I think. Actually, very unfair.

Macron took 18 cents (15 cents plus tax) off well before the election. Too far in front to have been taken into consideration I think. I remember saying that as prices continued to rise that if I was an ambitious politician I would have brought in a further reduction in the ten days prior to the election but, nothing was done. The current 18 C reduction is planned to stay until at least the end of summer and could be extended.

As a high mileage driver I hate paying for fuel but PLEASE remember that high prices have been caused by the action that European countries have taken against Russia. Under that circumstance, I am happy (as far as I can be!) to pay extra for fuel.

Anything that can be done to stop the biggest Nazi of all, President Putin, is worth supporting.

Prices seem to have dropped especially on diesel over this weekend here in France.

If you think that life is unfair or tough, please think of the second largest nation in Europe, a democratic country, being invaded by a vicious neighbour who is happy to bomb schools, hospitals and shopping centres.

Putin has behaved deplorably and Ukraine and its civilian population has been bombed and murdered in great numbers.

I felt so strongly that I volunteered on the first day of the invasion. I spoke to a charming guy in the Paris embassy who thanked me but due to a terminal illness, my age and lack of military experience he refused my application.

With the very best wishes to the poor people of Ukraine.

Where? In France?

Subsidised for commercial and freight traffic??
Yes I assume if must be. I stopped to walk dog and wandered over to lorry pumps to check price. It was definitely correct as he'd put in 525litres @1,20€=630€ as shown on pump.other lorry pump was the same.
2,20€/ litre on the peasants pumps.

Paid 1.98 in Beziers this morning. Near Bourges now….
